Ogun Restricts Graduation Ceremonies to Terminal Classes, Bans Extravagant Celebrations

The Ogun State Government has directed that graduation ceremonies in both public and private schools be restricted to learners in terminal classes only.

According to the directive, only pupils and students completing recognized stages of education—Primary 6, Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3, and Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3—are eligible for graduation ceremonies.

The government also prohibited the use of canopies, Aso Ebi, customized attire, and other forms of extravagant social displays during such events.

It emphasized that graduation ceremonies for pupils and students in Primary 6, JSS 3, and SSS 3 must be conducted in a modest manner and should not impose any financial burden on learners, parents, or guardians.

The directive is aimed at promoting simplicity, reducing unnecessary expenses, and ensuring that educational activities remain affordable for all families across the state.

School administrators have been advised to comply strictly with the new guidelines.
