LAGOS – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled a governorship ticket comprising Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, former Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Akinyemi Sonayon, and former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Sam Egube James, describing the team as a blend of experience, diversity, and competence required to sustain the state's development trajectory.

Speaking at a stakeholders' meeting in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the proposed ticket reflects the need for leadership continuity and the preservation of the developmental gains recorded by successive administrations in the state.

According to the governor, Lagos requires leaders with a deep understanding of governance, public service delivery, economic planning, and grassroots engagement to effectively address emerging challenges and drive future growth.

Sanwo-Olu noted that Dr. Hamzat's extensive experience in governance and public administration, coupled with his contributions to policy implementation and technological innovation, positions him as a worthy successor capable of consolidating on the achievements of the current administration.

The governor also highlighted the inclusion of Sonayon and James as a demonstration of the state's commitment to diversity, merit, and broad-based representation. He described both men as accomplished professionals with proven records in public service and economic management.

"The future of Lagos depends on leaders who understand our vision, appreciate our diversity, and are committed to delivering sustainable development for all residents. This ticket embodies those values and represents continuity, competence, and inclusiveness," Sanwo-Olu said.

He emphasized that the administration's developmental agenda, including infrastructure expansion, transportation reforms, digital transformation, healthcare improvement, education advancement, and economic empowerment programmes, requires leaders who can sustain momentum and build on existing foundations.

The governor urged residents, party stakeholders, and community leaders to support the emerging leadership team, stressing that Lagos remains a model of progressive governance and innovation in Nigeria.

Observers say the unveiling of the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket signals a strategic effort to ensure policy continuity while broadening participation in governance as the state prepares for its next political transition.

The proposed team is expected to engage stakeholders across the state's five administrative divisions in the coming months to articulate its vision for the continued growth and prosperity of Lagos State.
