WhatsApp Scam Alert: Fraudsters Impersonate Access Holdings Chairman to Lure Victims
LAGOS — A fresh wave of online fraud has emerged as scammers impersonate Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, to deceive unsuspecting members of the public through a fake investment scheme on WhatsApp.
The fraudsters reportedly created a WhatsApp group named “Value Focus Club 60” using the phone number +234 915 708 8290, while also deploying the chairman’s photograph to lend credibility to the scheme.
According to information gathered, the scammers are attempting to lure individuals into bogus investment opportunities under the guise of affiliation with Access Holdings.
However, authoritative sources have clarified that Mr. Aig-Imoukhuede is not associated with any WhatsApp-based investment platform. The company also does not provide investment advice or run financial schemes through WhatsApp or similar messaging platforms.
A whistleblower who identified the fraudulent activity raised the alarm, prompting calls for heightened public awareness and vigilance.
Members of the public have been advised to avoid joining the group or engaging with its administrators. They are also cautioned against sharing personal or banking details with unknown individuals or platforms.
Security-conscious users are encouraged to block and report the suspicious number on WhatsApp, while also informing friends, family, and colleagues to prevent further victims.
Meanwhile, Access Holdings Plc is said to be taking steps to shut down the fraudulent operation, stressing that public awareness remains a critical line of defense against cybercrime.
As digital scams continue to evolve, experts urge Nigerians to verify all investment opportunities through official company channels before committing funds.
