Ogun West Senate Race: Akinpelu, Taiwo, Gbeleyi Promise Continuity, Robust Representation

Three leading aspirants for the Ogun West Senatorial seat in Ado- Odo/Ota LG , Aina Nurudeen Akinpelu, Lai Taiwo, and Omobolanle Gbeleyi; have separately pledged to sustain ongoing development while offering stronger and more impactful representation at the National Assembly.

The contenders made their positions known during an engagement with journalists under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Ogun West Independent Chapel, with the theme "Meet The Press" at the Recreation center, Ilo-awela road, Ota.

Speaking during the session, Akinpelu, a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, described his senatorial ambition as a call to deepen progress already recorded in the district.

“The Senate is not just another office; it is a sacred mandate that must be occupied by someone with capacity, courage, and clarity of purpose, we must build on a solid foundation”, he said.

He commended past leaders for laying a solid developmental foundation and praised the incumbent senator, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, for sustaining the momentum.

“Taking over from a performing senator means you cannot afford to slow down. You either raise the bar or risk disappointing the people,” Akinpelu added.

Highlighting his experience, he noted: “My time in the House of Assembly, particularly as Chairman of the Committees on Health and Information, exposed me to governance and policy-making at a high level. I am prepared to bring that experience to the Senate.”

Reiterating his commitment, he said: “I may be small in stature, but I carry a big engine. Ogun West deserves energy, boldness, and visible representation.”
Taiwo: “Experience and Seniority Must Count”

On his part, former Commissioner for Works, Lai Taiwo, emphasized experience and long-standing service as critical factors in the race.

“I have paid my dues over the years in public service and governance. This is not a position for experimentation; it requires tested hands,” he stated.

Describing himself as one of the most senior aspirants, Taiwo added: “We must respect experience and institutional memory. Ogun West needs someone who understands the terrain and can navigate the complexities of national legislation effectively.”

He assured constituents of purposeful leadership, noting: “If given the mandate, I will ensure that development is not only sustained but expanded across all communities in the district.”

Gbeleyi: “My Experience Positions Me to Deliver”
Also speaking, Omobolanle Gbeleyi said his diverse experience in public service has prepared him for the demands of the Senate.

“I have served in various capacities, and those experiences have equipped me with the knowledge and exposure required to represent Ogun West effectively,” he said.

Gbeleyi stressed the need for inclusive and people-driven governance. “Representation must go beyond rhetoric. It must translate into real benefits for the people—projects, policies, and opportunities that improve lives,” he noted.

He further assured voters of his readiness: “I am fully prepared for this responsibility. Ogun West deserves a voice that will be heard, respected, and result-oriented at the National Assembly.”
