2027: Yilwatda Urges Cross River to Set New Voting Record for Tinubu
…Says Federal Infrastructure Projects Could Transform State into Major Economic Hub
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged the people of Cross River State to turn out in record numbers in the January 2027 presidential election to secure a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Yilwatda made the appeal on Monday at the APC presidential campaign rally in Calabar, where he joined Vice President Kashim Shettima and other party leaders in canvassing support for the President.
Commending the large turnout and reception accorded the party’s delegation, the APC chairman said the enthusiasm displayed by residents was encouraging but must be matched with votes at the polls.
He said Cross River occupied a strategic position in the Federal Government’s economic development plans, particularly with its maritime potential, geographical location and commercial opportunities.
According to him, ongoing and proposed federal infrastructure projects, including railway development, seaport expansion and the planned nationwide superhighway network, could significantly improve the state’s economic prospects.
Yilwatda said improved transport links would make it easier to move goods and people, attract private investment, create jobs and strengthen commercial activities across Cross River and the wider South-South region.
“For Cross River State, the opportunities are enormous. An efficient rail network will improve the movement of people and goods, while functional seaports can expand maritime commerce, create jobs and open new opportunities for businesses. A modern highway network will further connect ports, production centres and commercial cities,” he said.
He maintained that infrastructure investment was central to Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, adding that better connectivity would allow states to maximise their economic strengths and attract the investments needed for sustainable development.
The APC chairman urged Cross River residents to consider the long-term economic implications of the administration’s policies as they prepare for the 2027 elections, rather than viewing the campaign season solely through the lens of political activities.
He also called on party leaders, members, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, youths and women to take the campaign to every ward and community, stressing the need for unity and sustained grassroots mobilisation.
Yilwatda expressed confidence that Cross River would make a significant contribution to the APC’s electoral performance in 2027, urging the electorate to support the continuation of Tinubu’s administration.
He said a second term would give the President an opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms, complete critical infrastructure projects and expand economic opportunities for Nigerians.
The APC National Chairman’s message at the Calabar rally was a call for the people of Cross River to translate their enthusiasm into electoral support and set a new voting record in favour of President Tinubu.
