Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi (née Faji) as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

The appointment was contained in a press statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.

Professor Badejo, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, was born on August 4, 1962. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as well as a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Guidance and Counselling from the same institution.

She succeeds Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor of LASU is coming to an end following her retirement.

The appointment places Professor Badejo at the helm of affairs of one of Nigeria's leading state-owned universities, where she is expected to provide academic and administrative leadership while building on the institution's existing strides in teaching, research, innovation and community development.

The appointment takes effect as Professor Olatunji-Bello's tenure expires.

The statement was signed by Omotoso on behalf of the Lagos State Government.
