LASU Research Fair: Olatunji-Bello to Lead Conversation on AI-Driven National Development
Lagos State University (LASU) is set to host its 8th Research and Innovation Fair, with the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, serving as Chief Host.
The two-day event, scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 9, 2026, will take place at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, from 9:00 a.m. daily.
Themed “Accelerating National Development through Artificial Intelligence-Driven Research and Innovation,” the fair is designed to bring together researchers, academics, innovators, students, policymakers, industry stakeholders and other key players within the research and innovation ecosystem.
Under the leadership of Professor Olatunji-Bello, LASU has continued to place emphasis on research excellence, innovation, knowledge creation and the development of solutions capable of addressing societal and national challenges.
The 8th edition of the fair comes at a time when Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming education, research, industry and public-sector decision-making. The event will therefore provide a platform for stakeholders to examine opportunities for the responsible deployment of AI in advancing national development.
Discussions and innovations at the fair are expected to cover a wide range of areas, including the ethical application of AI in teaching and research, agriculture, healthcare, energy and human resources.
The fair will also explore the potential of AI to strengthen security, safety and policymaking, while highlighting the role of research and innovation in solving some of the country's most pressing developmental challenges.
As Chief Host, Professor Olatunji-Bello is expected to welcome participants to what LASU describes as a platform for meaningful engagement, knowledge exchange and collaboration among academia, government, industry and other stakeholders.
The university said the fair underscores its commitment to ensuring that research findings and innovative ideas are translated into practical solutions with measurable impact on society.
With the focus firmly placed on Artificial Intelligence and innovation, the two-day event is expected to stimulate new conversations, partnerships and ideas on how Nigeria can harness emerging technologies for sustainable national development.
