Ondo ex-lawmakers condole with families of 37 miners who died in NSCDC custody
The Forum of Former Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly has commiserated with the families of the suspected illegal miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State.
The forum, in a Tuesday condolence message signed by its Chairman, Olugbenga Araoyinbo, and Public Relations Officer, Tayo Abidakun, described the incident as a tragedy and prayed to God to grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
The former lawmakers also condoled with the Federal Government, the Minister of Interior and the entire staff of the ministry over the incident.
“We commiserate with the Hon minister of interiors and the entire ministry over the tragic death of 37 illegal miners in the custody of the NSCDC in Minna Niger State,” the statement said.
The forum commended the Federal Government and the minister for the steps being taken to unravel the circumstances that led to the deaths of the miners.

The statement said the government should ensure that a thorough investigation was carried out into the incident and that those found culpable were punished.
The former lawmakers, while assuring that justice would be done, appealed to Nigerians to be patient and avoid any act of violence while the investigation into the matter was ongoing.
They also called on the Minister of Interior not to be “discouraged by the incident, urging him to continue with the zeal and determination he had employed in delivering on the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu.”
The statement said the forum shared in the grief of the families of the deceased and expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
It added that the authorities must ensure that the circumstances leading to the deaths were thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action was taken against anyone found responsible.
