 OGUN REAFFIRMS FISCAL TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY AT OGFSP FORUM

The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to fiscal transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources at the 2025 Citizens’ Consultative Forum under the Ogun State Fiscal Sustainability Programme (OGFSP).

This was disclosed at a forum, during the presentation of the Citizens’ Accountability Report, based on the Audited Financial Statements for 2025,  at the Ministry of Finance’s Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Accountant General/Permanent Secretary (Treasury), Mr. Olalekan Taiwo, described the forum as an avenue for government to give an account of its stewardship, providing citizens with information on the resources available to the State and how they were utilised together with the outcomes of its financial management.

He said the administration remained committed to openness and responsible financial management, encouraging citizens and other stakeholders to seek information, ask questions and provide feedback on public financial management.

According to him, the 2025 “Budget of Hope and Prosperity”, originally approved and retained as the final budget at ₦1.054 trillion, recorded total revenue of ₦678.1 billion, representing 64 per cent performance, while actual expenditure stood at ₦690.2 billion, representing 65 per cent performance.

He noted that personnel expenditure recorded 73 per cent performance, Other Recurrent Costs 70 per cent, while capital expenditure recorded 60 per cent.

Mr. Taiwo, highlighted the growth in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as one of the major achievement, noting that the improved revenue performance had strengthened the State’s fiscal position, enhanced its capacity to finance development programmes and supported its ability to meet financial obligations.

Participants at the forum, comprising representatives of citizens, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), commended the State Government for sustaining the fiscal sustainability programme and promoting openness in its budgeting and financial management processes.

They also appreciated the enabling environment created for stakeholders’ participation and the administration’s open-door policy, which they noted had encouraged greater engagement and understanding of the State’s financial management.
