Ado-Odo/Ota Chairman Reaffirms People-Centred Governance, Flags Off Rehabilitation of Obasanjo–Eledi–Ijagba Road
The Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to responsive and people-centred governance, declaring that no community within the council area will be left behind in its ongoing infrastructural renewal programme.
Lawal made the pledge while speaking with journalists during an inspection of the rehabilitation of the long-abandoned road linking the Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba communities in Ota.
According to the Chairman, the road project was initiated in direct response to the persistent appeals of residents who had endured years of poor road conditions.
"Our people in Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba cried out and we listened. As a government that is close to the grassroots, we have a duty to respond swiftly to the yearnings of our people. Good roads and effective drainage are not privileges; they are essential for economic growth, ease of movement and the well-being of our citizens," Lawal said.
He assured residents that the rehabilitation would be carried out according to approved standards and completed within the stipulated timeframe urging members of the affected communities to cooperate with contractors and safeguard the infrastructure by maintaining drainage channels and avoiding indiscriminate disposal of refuse.
The Chairman further disclosed that his administration is simultaneously executing a major drainage project following the successful construction of a box culvert on Plaza Road linking the Maltina area in Sango.
He explained that the drainage project is designed to improve stormwater management, reduce recurring flooding in the area, and protect lives and property, noting that the initiative reflects his administration's broader commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure across Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.
Reacting to the development, the Araba of Ota, Chief Oluwo Faniyi Fashola, commended the Chairman for what he described as a prompt and compassionate response to the needs of the affected communities.
Fashola described Lawal as a leader who keeps his promises and consistently places the welfare of the people at the centre of his administration.
Residents expressed optimism that the rehabilitation of the road and the ongoing drainage projects would significantly improve transportation, enhance commercial activities and provide lasting relief from the flooding challenges that have affected the communities for years.
