 EFFECTIVE DATA SUPPLY: FME DONATES SMART DEVICE TO OGUN EDUCATION MINISTRY

Towards ensuring adequate and effective gathering, processing and supply of data of all learners in both public and private Primary and Secondary Schools, alongside the Government Technical Colleges, as well as Integrated Quranic Schools and Integrated Quranic Tsangaya Education, the Federal Ministry of Education has donated Smart device to Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Speaking during the presentation and installation of the gadgets in his office at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta, Commissioner for Education in the State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said the Smart device would further help the Ministry to correctly identify the figure of the out-of-school children and to know how to properly tackle the challenge.

Prof. Arigbabu, commended the Minister of Education, Dr. Alausa for the proactive innovations embarked upon towards changing the narrative in the education sector, particularly on the issue of data collection, processing and supply, which would lead to taking decisions based on data and not on head knowledge.

The Commissioner revealed that the presentation would cover the entire 36 States of Nigeria, opined that non-availability of data had heralded the issues of insecurity and other social vices in schools, noting that effective data gathering engender proper provision for the learners.

"For me, I will only pray that we continue to use this device for the purpose it is meant for, so that planning in education sector could be seamless and that we may tackle other issues around insecurity and other vices we have in the education sector," he said

Speaking, representative of the Nigerian Education Management Information System and Nigeria Education Data Initiative at the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Adewale Adesanya, said the intervention came through the directive of the Minister that every State should focus more on single source of truthful data capturing, decision making and policy formulation regarding education in Nigeria.
