LG BEGINS BROODING OF 2,000 PULLETS TO BOOST FOOD SECURITY
Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State has commenced the brooding phase of a 2,000-pullet poultry project aimed at improving food security, increasing protein availability for residents and enhancing Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The Local Government Chairman, Hon. Adewale Wasiu, made this known while speaking with Journalists in his office at the secretariat in Ota, saying that the project would not only improve egg production for local consumption, but also create employment opportunities and strengthen the local economy.
According to him, the poultry scheme was also expected to serve as a viable revenue-generating venture for the council, while supporting household nutrition through increased access to affordable protein sources.
The initiative, which began at the Ado-Odo poultry farm, was part of the council’s broader agricultural development agenda designed to establish a sustainable poultry value chain within the local government area.
Speaking on the development, the Head of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Omidiji Ezekiel, disclosed that the project would be implemented in two phases.
He explained that the first phase, involving the brooding of 1,000 pullets, had already commenced, while another 1,000 birds would be introduced shortly to achieve the target of 2,000 pullets.
Omidiji, said the department was committed to ensuring the success of the project through strict adherence to biosecurity measures, vaccination schedules, and proper poultry management practices in order to guarantee optimal survival and productivity of the birds.
