LASU Sets August 12–23 for 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies



 Lagos State University(LASU), has announced the schedule of activities for its combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, with a series of academic, cultural, religious and social events lined up between August 12 and August 23, 2026.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, disclosed that the ceremonies would celebrate the achievements of graduating students across various faculties and programmes of the institution.

According to a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel A. Fanu, the convocation activities will commence on Wednesday, August 12, with a press conference at the First Floor Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Ojo Campus, by 10:00 a.m., followed by a sports competition for staff members at the university’s Sports Centre by noon.

The following day, Thursday, August 13, has been designated as Staff Celebration Day, during which members of staff are expected to appear in traditional attire representing their various tribes. The event will hold at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo Campus, at 2:00 p.m.

Activities for Friday, August 14, will feature the traditional Coconut Breaking and Cultural Day ceremony at the Badagry Gate Entrance of the university by 9:00 a.m., while a Jumat Service will later hold at the University Mosque at 1:00 p.m.

The university stated that the award of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, as well as the conferment of Distinguished Professorship, will take place on Monday, August 17, at the Olatunji Bello Auditorium, Epe Campus, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

A convocation lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium by 9:00 a.m., after which the institution will confer diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees on graduands from other faculties and disciplines.

The grand finale of the academic ceremonies will hold on Wednesday, August 19, with the award of Professional and Academic Doctorate Degrees, including PhDs, alongside the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo Campus.

The convocation activities will officially end on Sunday, August 23, with a Special Convocation Thanksgiving Service at the University Chapel, Chapel of Light, Ojo Campus, by 10:00 a.m.

The management also released detailed guidelines for graduands, parents and invited guests. Graduands were directed to pay for their convocation packages through the university’s payment portal and advised to return academic gowns on or before Friday, August 21, to avoid penalties.

According to the university, any graduand who fails to return the gown after the stipulated date will pay a daily fine of ₦1,000, while lost or damaged gowns will attract replacement fees of ₦36,000 for first-degree gowns and ₦45,000 for postgraduate gowns.

The institution further noted that certificates would be available for collection immediately after the convocation ceremony, subject to the return of academic gowns and completion of clearance procedures.

Graduands were also instructed to arrive at the convocation venue before 9:00 a.m. each day, warning that latecomers would not be permitted into the auditorium. The university added that unauthorized movement and photography during the ceremonies would not be tolerated in order to maintain decorum and orderliness.

Parents, guardians and invited guests were advised to be seated no later than 8:30 a.m. for all ceremonies.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated all graduands, parents, guardians, stakeholders and members of the university community on the forthcoming combined convocation ceremonies.
