 PRINCIPALS TRAINED ON FACILITY MAINTENANCE



School Administrators have been urged to see college equipment and facilities as their personal assets, a mindset that is geared towards careful observance in order to ensure proper maintenance and preservation of all that is put in their care.


‎          This was disclosed bythe Permanent Secretary, Ogun state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Moriamo Oloko, while declaring open a One-Day Leadership Training for Principals and Centre Managers, themed “Management, Security and Maintenance of College Facilities”, organised by the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB) at its conference room in Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.


 Mrs. Oloko advised that they must constantly deploy the right attitude towards schools and centres’s properties, reminding them to see the properties as their personal possessions’


    "Your attitude towards the facilities in your care must be right, projects and ventures under you must be seen as yours which must be protected like an egg,’’ she said. She therefore urged principals of technical colleges and vocational centres to be practical in the discharge of their duties, stressing the importance of effective leadership in achieving institutional goals.


‎          Mrs. Oloko implored participants to adopt and fully implement the knowledge and strategies gained from the training, noting that proper application would enhance management efficiency, strengthen accountability and improve overall performance across the institutions.


‎          In her welcome address, Acting Executive Secretary, OGSTVEB, Mrs. Mojisola Adenowo, called for improved management, security and maintenance of facilities in Government Technical colleges and Vocational centres across Ogun State, saying the training was aimed at strengthening leadership capacity and ensuring  sustainability of the Ogun State Government’s investments in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.


She commended the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun and the efforts of the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi  Arigbabu, for their commitment to the revitalisation of technical education in the State.


‎            According to her, strategic interventions, including World Bank-supported programmes, had led to improved infrastructure, provision of modern equipment, upgraded workshops and enhanced learning environments in Technical colleges, with initiatives such as OGESERA, DiPPER and OgunLEARN playing key roles.


‎          OGSTEP TVET Specialist, Mr. Unyimeabasi Eyo, urged Principals and Centre Managers to adopt regular maintenance, timely repairs and proper usage of equipment to sustain college facilities and boost productivity, adding that a well-maintained facilities would safeguard the integrity and reputation of school leaders, accordingly, called on the Executive Secretary to ensure continuous monitoring across all Colleges and Centres.


‎          In his remarks, the GIZ State coordinator, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim charged participants to transfer the knowledge gained from the training to all Heads of Departments in their respective institutions, advising them to set up dedicated committees to oversee different segments of facilities management, adding that a reward system should be introduced to motivate compliance and encourage a strong maintenance culture.


‎          A major facilitator at the training, Dr. Soji Adekoya, who spoke on leadership and strategic management for Technical Colleges, stressed that effective leadership must be built on inspiration, guidance and fairness and such leader must  be empathetic, supportive and encouraging.


  He noted further that a good leader must lead by example, foster trust, be committed, value people without bias and deliberately promote team spirit, adding that unity and cooperation were critical to achieving positive outcomes in any organisation.
