The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has clamoured for a people that will continue to make growth and socio-economic transformation, their watch word in other to create an evolving society that is filled with developmental initiative.


Prof. Arigbabu made this statement during a day workshop organised by the Ministry in collaboration with Ogun State Skills Fund for key stakeholders in the sector, saying the only way to sustain the tremendous transformation the State education sector has undergone in the present administration was for subsequent government that would come after this to build on it.

Arigbabu charged stakeholders to take advantage of the workshop and embrace the new waves of technological innovations and initiatives of the present government, adding that, deliberate efforts  should be made to cascade it  to others, so as to make it sustainable.

The Commissioner recalled that the present administration's had remodeled  the 8 Technical Colleges across the State to make teaching and learning process conducive, revealing that solid arrangement had been made to fully furnish them with  modern equipment which would  foster smooth transfer of knowledge.

Speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko enjoined participants to  ensure that they put into adequate use the knowledge that would be  gained in the workshops in their day to day activities, adding that self-development would also help in improving their service delivery.

State was the only Certiport Accredited Centre and National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Awarding Body in the country.

SUBEB BOSS UNDERSCORES IMPORTANCE OF DATA COLLECTION IN BASIC EDUCATION

The Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has revealed the critical role of accurate data in basic education, noting that data-driven planning remains essential for effective development in the sector.

Ifede made this known during a 2-day training organised by SUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), for Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) on the BESDA Application Monitoring Information System (BAMIS), at Imo Methodist Primary School, Oke-Yeke, Abeokuta.

The SUBEB boss stressed that modern planning is technology-driven, especially within the basic education system.

“UBEC officials came to train 30 participants, and these trainers will now spread across the State. The training is taking place in four divisions of the State. The trainees will go to all schools to cascade the training. I want you to use this opportunity very well. The tablets given to you are for data collection and not for anything else,” he said.

He urged participants to take the exercise seriously and practise the skills gained independently after the training, adding that, proper data collection remained vital for sound policy implementation.

“If you collect wrong data, it will give us wrong information and those who rely on the data for policy decisions may implement wrong policies,” he added.

Also speaking, the Board Secretary, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, explained that the purpose of the training was to ensure effective management of school attendance, noting that all necessary tools had been provided by the Government. He charged participants to give their best and be prepared to cascade the training in their various zones.

Lending her voice, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, SUBEB, Mrs. Oluwakemi Asenuga, stated that the BAMIS application was designed not only to capture data but also to monitor school activities. She added that it would enable SUBEB to have real-time insights into what is happening across the 20 local government areas of the State.

 

One of the facilitators from the Egba Zone, Dr. Semiu Adeniran, said the trainers were exposed to the features and benefits of (BAMIS), noting that the application would support teachers in public primary schools by enabling them to add students, register schools, mark attendance and upload teachers information.

Meanwhile, the SUBEB Chairman, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has also commended the management of PUNCH Newspaper for its quality service delivery.

He made the remark during a courtesy visit by the organisation to his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, assuring that the board would continue to maintain a cordial working relationship with the media outfit.

He urged the organisation to prioritise corporate social responsibility (CSR) as part of its efforts to give back to the State, encouraging them to support the improvement of public primary schools to enhance learning and teaching conditions.

In her response, the Advert Manager, PUNCH Newspaper, Mrs. Kemi Ogungbemi, appreciated the board for its continued patronage and pledged that the organisation would continue to fulfil its civic responsibilities, including, supporting the State government and giving back to the society.

OGSG REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO FARMERS-HERDERS PEACE AT STAKEHOLDERS' SECURITY MEETING

The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening security for farmers, herders and livestock producers as part of efforts to safeguard food production and rural stability.

The assurance was given by the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Honourable Bolu Owotomo during a stakeholders’ meeting convened to address rising concerns over farmer–herder conflict and cattle rustling across the State at the Department of Veterinary Services, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta.

The Commissioner described the situation as a growing threat to agricultural productivity, community peace and the livelihoods of thousands of citizens, stressing that the State could no longer afford to ignore these challenges, as both crop and livestock farming remained vital contributors to food security, job creation and industrial growth in Ogun State.

Owotomo highlighted the establishment of the Farmers–Herders Conflict Resolution Committee as one of the government’s major interventions to promote peace between the two groups emphasising that the committee has been instrumental in handling disputes swiftly, verifying losses, sensitising communities, gathering data and rebuilding trust among stakeholders.

He added that plans were underway to decentralise the committee’s activities to local governments and communities for greater efficiency, noting that the dry season was a period often associated with increased tensions over grazing routes and access to water, saying further that the State remained committed to fostering peaceful coexistence and ensuring that neither farmers nor herders suffer insecurity or deprivation.

According to him," the State government stands firm in its resolve to protect farmers, support herders, enhance security and sustain peace across our communities", he said.

He urged participants at the meeting to engage constructively, share their experiences and propose sustainable strategies to prevent conflicts as  meaningful contributions from all sides were essential to building a more secured and productive agricultural environment.

Also speaking, Director Veterinary Services, Dr. Taiwo Jolaoso said the meeting brought together key actors that included trade unions, professional bodies, security agencies and academia to discuss issues affecting food production, livestock management in order to prevent and resolve conflicts, improve communication and build trust among farmers and herders.

 In their separate remarks, Chairman, Farmers -Herders Conflict Resolution Committee, Prince Segun Dasaolu, Seriki Fulani of Abeokuta, Mohammed Labar; and the Chairman, Cassava Growers Association, Ogun State Chapter, Oladele Awoleri unanimously agreed that all hands must be on deck to achieve and sustain the committee's objectives.

SAGAMU LG CHAIRMAN FLAGS OFF 2.4km AJEGUNLE–ARAROMI ROAD CONSTRUCTION

As part of measures to foster progress and development, the Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Jubril Odulate, has officially flagged off the construction of the 2.4-kilometres Ajegunle–Araromi Road in Sagamu.

Odulate said the initiative marked another milestone in the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities within the council area.

He expressed appreciation to the investors who partnered with the local government on the project, noting that, their presence reflected growing global confidence in Sagamu and Ogun State as a promising hub for economic expansion.

The Chairman lauded the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for creating an enabling environment that had continued to attract both local and foreign investments, adding that the Governor’s infrastructural policies and pro-investment reforms had played major roles in strengthening Sagamu’s development outlook.

While addressing members of the community, Odulate commended their cooperation and peaceful disposition, just as he emphasised that development thrived where mutual understanding existed.

Odulate revealed that the road project was designed to ease movement, boost commercial activities and enhance the overall quality of life, while highlighting also, the importance of community-driven security  that would watch over properties  especially equipment on site,  urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to the authorities.

“Security is everyone’s business. Whenever you notice anything unusual, do not hesitate to inform security agencies. If you see something, say it,” he said.

Stakeholders described the project as a major step toward unlocking new social and economic opportunities in Sagamu.

GOVERNOR ABIODUN SETS TO PRESENT 2026 BUDGET PROPOSAL.

Ogun State House of Assembly is poised to play host to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on December 3, 2025, for the presentation of 2026 budget proposal

In a Release signed by the Clerk of the House/Head of Legislative Services, Mr. Adebakin Sakiru-Aremu said the budget presentation which is in line with section 121 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, will take place in the Assembly complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, by 10am.

All State government Functionaries, guest and Stakeholders are enjoined to be seated by 9:30am.
