Ogun School Administrators Charged to Integrate Vocational Skills, Understand Taxation System
In a bid to enhance the quality of education and reduce unemployment, the retired Permanent Secretary of Ogun State Government, Dr. Waheed Olanloye, has urged school administrators in the state to integrate vocational skills into all tiers of education.
The Rtd. Permanent Secretary, Dr. Waheed Olanloye gave the charge while delivering a lecture,theme: Integration Of Vocational Skills Into All Tiers Of Education In Nigeria, during a day capacity training and workshop at His Place Event Center,Ambassador Ota.
Dr. Olanloye emphasized the importance of equipping students with practical skills to boost their employability saying
some of the vocational skills recommended for integration include hair styling, fashion designing, electrical repairs, arts and crafts, photography, makeup and makeover, interior design, welding, and carpentry.
Speaking, the Executive Chairman of Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr. Olugbenga Anthony, highlighted the importance of understanding the taxation system for schools in Ogun State explaining that schools are required to comply with various tax laws and regulations, including Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Direct Assessment, Development Levy, and Withholding of Individuals and Enterprises.
Mr. Anthony advised school owners to register with the relevant tax authority, keep proper book accounts, and file tax returns on time to avoid penalties.
The founder of EduTams, Dr. Ademola Olaide, also spoke at the event, highlighting the platform's role in modernizing school administration and securing grants from the MasterCard Foundation.
The Zonal Education Officer, Mrs. Adeola Sherifat Ayoola, commended the collaboration among stakeholders, which has yielded positive outcomes in the educational system.
Participants at the workshop, including representatives from Delight Private School, Mr Oladimeji Ajibose, Javy Royal College, Mrs Olufunmi Oyede and others praised the annual capacity-building initiative for improving the educational system in Nigeria.
