Lagos Inaugurates 44 Sports Association Chairmen, Tasks Them on Grassroots Talent Development

 

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated 44 chairmen of various sports associations across the state, charging them to intensify grassroots talent discovery and create sustainable pathways for athletes to compete and succeed at the highest levels.

The state government, while inaugurating the new sports association leadership, stressed the need for early identification of talented athletes and their proper development through structured programmes, regular competitions and opportunities for professional advancement.

The government noted that sports in Lagos goes beyond competition, describing the sector as an important avenue for creating opportunities in education, employment, entrepreneurship and economic growth.

The newly inaugurated chairmen were therefore tasked with strengthening grassroots sports development while ensuring transparency, accountability and effective administration within their respective associations.

The government also urged the associations to expand opportunities for women and girls, persons with disabilities and other emerging talents, stressing the importance of an inclusive sports development system.

According to the government, Lagos is blessed with abundant sporting talent, but the responsibility lies with sports administrators to establish the systems, structures and opportunities required to transform raw talent into elite athletes and champions.

The new leadership was consequently charged to focus on regular competitions and effective athlete development programmes capable of preparing Lagos athletes for national and international competitions.

The government expressed optimism that the newly inaugurated chairmen would provide the leadership required to discover and nurture the next generation of sporting talents in the state.

It added that the ultimate measure of their success would be reflected in the athletes they develop and the champions they produce for Lagos and Nigeria.
