OGSG PROVIDES FREE FOOD, ACCOMMODATION FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN

As part of measures put in place to  make life easier and more convenient for children living with disabilities, the government of Prince Dapo Abiodun has provided free food and free accommodation for pupils in all the Five Special Needs Schools in Ogun State.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, made this known during a sensitisation drive on enrolment of pupils into Public Primary Schools in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu markets and motor parks, said the current administration had provided all that was needed for the smooth learning conditions in those schools.

Prof. Arigbabu, accompanied by the Special Adviser and Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Dr. Lukmon Kiadese and Hon. Idowu Daniel said that, hope should not be lost on children living with disabilities, neither should their parents keep them because of shame, rather, they should be enrolled in government schools where they could be adequately catered for to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.

Prof. Arigbabu, also implored other parents to maximise the opportunities of qualitative free education, professional teachers, good learning environment, infrastructural amenities, technological innovations and many other transformational innovations available at the public schools and register their wards in any primary school closer to them, noting that admission remained free of charge.

"It is profitable and desirable for parents to send their children to school, though at the initial stage, it may seem painful, but at the end, it becomes something of pride,’’ Arigbabu said.

Speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, joined by the leadership of the Association  of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) in Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu sumitted that education remained the only route to desired success, adding that whatever business or vocation children might want to learn, they should make education the bedrock.

Moreso, the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area Zonal Education Secretary, Chief Felix Ayankoya and the Women Leader of All Progress Congress (APC) in Ijebu-Ode, Mrs. Adesola Ajayi, hinted that the government of Prince Abiodun, desired the best educational standard for the citizens of Ogun State, hence, the provision of special amenities for the smooth academic activities.

In their various remarks, the Iyalojas of Oke-Aje Market and Olabisi Onabanjo International Market, both in Ijebu-Ode, Chief Mrs. Kuforiji and Chief Mrs. Oloruntele Ogunba respectively, as well as Iyalojas of Isale-Oko, Akarigbo and Awolowo markets and leaders of Motor parks in the two regions appreciated the Commissioner and his entourage for the value placed on the lives of children that prompted the enlightenment of parents to enroll their wards.
