 Community Gathers in Alakuko to Celebrate Matriarch at 80

Alakuko, Lagos — It was a day of joy, gratitude, and heartfelt tributes as family members, friends, and well-wishers gathered at Jesus Tabernacle Church (J.T.C), Onipinla, Dalemo, Alakuko, to celebrate the 80th birthday of Mrs. Emily Oluranti Egbewunmi.


The event, hosted by her son, Tunji Egbewunmi,  and others drew a large congregation who came to honour a woman widely described as a pillar of faith, humility, and service within her community and church.

The thanksgiving service was marked by spirited worship, soul-lifting hymns, and prayers of appreciation for a life many attendees said has been impactful and inspiring. Clergy at the church extolled Mrs. Egbewunmi’s steadfast commitment to Christian values, noting her decades of dedication to the growth of the church and her support for younger members.

In his remarks, Tunji Egbewunmi expressed deep gratitude to God for granting his mother longevity, good health, and the grace to witness the milestone. He described her as a woman of virtue whose strength, discipline, and compassion have shaped the lives of her children and those around her.

“Today is not just about celebrating age, but about celebrating a life well spent in service to God and humanity,” he said.

Guests at the event took turns to share goodwill messages, recounting Mrs. Egbewunmi’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Many described her as a mother figure not only to her biological children but also to countless others who have benefitted from her guidance and care over the years.

The celebration continued with a reception filled with music, dancing, and merriment, reflecting the deep affection and respect held for the octogenarian.

Mrs. Emily Oluranti Egbewunmi, visibly delighted, thanked God for His faithfulness throughout her life and expressed appreciation to her family and all who came to celebrate with her.
