Ado-Odo/Ota Reps Race Heats Up as Aspirants Unveil Plans Ahead of 2027

The race for the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives is gathering momentum, as aspirants across major political parties intensify consultations and unveil their visions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was evident during a “Meet the Press” session organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun West Independent Chapel, where leading contenders outlined their ambitions and policy priorities.

Among the frontline aspirants is High Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun, the Seriki of Ota Kingdom, who has declared his intention to contest under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bashorun, widely regarded for his philanthropic disposition, dismissed concerns that his traditional title could hinder his political responsibilities, assuring constituents of effective representation if elected.

“I have a track record of full-fledged community and human capital development spanning decades, even before nursing any political aspiration. I believe this will earn me the confidence of the electorate,” he said.

He pledged to revive abandoned training facilities and institutions such as the ILO facility and the technical school in Igbesa, while also leveraging his national and international business networks to attract investments into the constituency.

Also speaking, a United Kingdom-trained engineer, Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo, who is seeking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket, said her ambition is driven by a desire to tackle “intellectual poverty” through reforms in education and healthcare.

“The dynamics have changed. People are more aware and informed. I’m not bothered about being in the opposition,” she stated, while promising transparency in public fund management and quarterly town hall meetings with constituents.

Other aspirants also used the platform to outline their visions.

Hon. Tunji Bankole, a PDP aspirant, emphasised the need for experienced and people-oriented leadership, pledging to prioritise youth empowerment and economic inclusion.

“Ado-Odo/Ota deserves purposeful representation that understands the needs of the people. My focus will be on creating opportunities for our youths, supporting small businesses, and ensuring that federal presence is felt in our communities,” he said.

He added that he would push for policies that enhance infrastructure development and improve the living standards of constituents.

On his part, Hon. Sodiq Adewale Omotayo of the APC stressed the importance of continuity and effective grassroots engagement, noting that representation must go beyond rhetoric.

“Representation is about impact. Our people want to see tangible results—better roads, improved schools, and accessible healthcare. I am committed to delivering practical solutions that will uplift our constituency,” he said.

Omotayo also pledged to strengthen collaboration with relevant government agencies to attract developmental projects to the area.

Similarly, Hon. Engr. Alade Jimoh, also contesting under the APC, highlighted his technical background as a key advantage in addressing infrastructural challenges in the constituency.

“As an engineer, I understand the infrastructural deficits facing our communities. My priority will be to initiate and support projects that will drive industrial growth, improve power supply, and enhance overall development,” he stated.

Jimoh further assured constituents of inclusive representation, promising to carry all segments of society along in decision-making processes.

With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicating options of direct primaries or consensus arrangements for party nominations, aspirants are ramping up consultations with party stakeholders to secure their tickets.

Political observers note that the contest is shaping up to be highly competitive, with issues of development, transparency, and grassroots engagement dominating campaign narratives as the 2027 elections draw closer.
