TEACHERS TO UNDERGO CBT FOR HEADSHIP POSITIONS - SUBEB CHAIRMAN
Public primary school teachers in Ogun State have been urged to acquire computer literacy, as eligibility for headship positions will now be determined through Computer-Based Tests (CBT).
Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, made this known during a-day training programme for Primary and Secondary School Teachers on the implementation of the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network (OgunLEARN), at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Evang. Ifede, revealed that aspiring headteachers would undergo a rigorous screening process including CBT, encouraging teachers to enroll in computer training programmes.
“I remember when we introduced CBT for secondary school teachers seeking to become principals. They thought it would be difficult, but today they are used to it. Primary school teachers too, need to brace up,” he said.
The SUBEB Boss further cautioned teachers against over-reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI), warning that it should not lead to complacency in the teaching profession, urging participants to remain attentive and ask questions where necessary. He commended the Governor for his commitment to educational development in the State.
“Do not allow Artificial Intelligence to make you lazy. It is important to study and master its application properly," he warned.
In a goodwill message, State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, said the platform would simplify teaching processes and improve learning outcomes, urging participants to embrace the initiative, master its usage and share the knowledge with colleagues.
In her address, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Moriamo Oloko, disclosed that 107 OgunLEARN ambassadors had been trained to cascade the AI-driven platform to teachers across the State, noting that initiatives such as OgunLEARN, Ogunteach and OgunRehab, had significantly transformed the education sector.
On his part, President of the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Mr. Tajudeen Adeosun, commended the State government for the initiative, saying it would enhance teachers’ preparedness for effective classroom delivery.
Responding on behalf of the participants from Obada Grammar School, Imeko-Afon, Mrs. Bolaji Onasanya and Premier Secondary School, Abeokuta North, Mr. Victor Oyeyemi, described the programme as a major step toward integrating technology into teaching.
