OTA LG MOVES TO END LONG-STANDING FLOODING IN MEFUN AREA

The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government has announced plans to tackle the persistent flooding affecting Akinbo Street and the Mefun area, bringing relief to residents who have endured the challenge for years.

The Executive Chairman, Hon. Lawal Adewale, had directed the Works and Housing Department to commence the construction of a properly channelled drainage system, complete with culverts saying that the project underscores the administration’s commitment to addressing long-standing environmental and infrastructural challenges, while enhancing the overall quality of life for residents of Ado-Odo/Ota.

He noted that the drainage project would span from Akinbo Street to Mefun Road and would be designed to provide a lasting solution to the recurring flooding, especially during the rainy season adding that the initiative follows a series of complaints from residents over the impact of flooding on homes, businesses and road accessibility in the area.

"As part of efforts to ensure smooth execution, the council had engaged community members through its Water and Environmental Sanitation, as well as information, education and sports departments. Residents have been duly informed about the project and encouraged to cooperate with officials during the construction process," Lawal explained.

In their reactions, on behalf of the  community members, Mr Toriola Adekambi welcomed the development while expressing appreciation to the council for responding to their concerns and prioritising infrastructure improvement.
