Nigerian Navy Strengthens Partnership with UBA as Western Naval Command Chief Visits Tony Elumelu



The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of United Bank for Africa, Tony O. Elumelu, as part of efforts to strengthen existing collaboration between the Navy and the financial institution.


Rear Admiral Mustapha, who visited Elumelu at the bank’s headquarters on March 17, 2026, conveyed the goodwill of the Chief of the Naval Staff and formally introduced himself as the 46th Flag Officer Commanding of the Western Naval Command.


During the visit, the naval chief commended Elumelu for his remarkable contributions to economic development across Africa, particularly through entrepreneurship empowerment initiatives that have positively impacted thousands of young Africans through the Tony Elumelu Foundation.


Mustapha reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain in the western region through improved surveillance, deployment of technology, and enhanced intelligence sharing.


He also extended an invitation to Elumelu to participate in activities marking the forthcoming 70th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Navy, which will feature an International Fleet Review.


Responding, Elumelu expressed appreciation for the visit and congratulated Rear Admiral Mustapha on his appointment as the new FOC Western Naval Command. He reaffirmed his support for the Nigerian Navy’s efforts in strengthening maritime security and contributing to national development.


The visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph between both parties
