NCC Seeks Stakeholders’ Input on Review of National Telecommunications Policy 2000

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has invited stakeholders and members of the public to submit comments on a consultation paper for the review of the National Telecommunications Policy 2000, as part of efforts to update the country’s telecommunications framework in line with current industry realities.

The Commission disclosed this in a public notice issued in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003, particularly Section 24(1), which mandates the regulator to conduct consultative processes in the formulation and review of policies affecting the telecommunications sector.

According to the NCC, the consultation paper has been published on its official website to enable interested stakeholders review the document and provide written submissions that will contribute to shaping the revised national telecommunications policy.

The Commission explained that the review process is part of its statutory responsibility to ensure that Nigeria’s telecommunications policy framework remains relevant and responsive to the rapidly evolving digital and communications landscape.

Stakeholders, industry players, policy experts, and members of the public have been encouraged to study the consultation paper and submit their feedback to the Commission on or before March 20, 2026.

All submissions are to be addressed to the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC at the Commission’s headquarters located at Plot 423, Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja, with attention to the Director of Policy, Competition and Economic Analysis. Responses may also be forwarded electronically through the Commission’s designated email channel.

The NCC noted that the consultative exercise underscores its commitment to inclusive and transparent policymaking that promotes growth, innovation and sustainability in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

Industry observers say the review of the National Telecommunications Policy, first introduced in 2000, is expected to align the country’s telecom regulatory framework with emerging technologies, evolving market dynamics and the growing demands of Nigeria’s digital economy.
