In a powerful demonstration of compassion without borders, the UBA Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has once again reaffirmed its commitment to Africa’s most vulnerable populations, delivering hope, nourishment, and essential support across Nigeria and 19 other African countries.

Between November 2025 and January 2026, the Foundation rolled out its Food Bank and Giving Back initiatives, distributing food items, school materials, and cash gifts valued at several millions of naira and dollars. The outreach impacted over 100,000 individuals,
ranging from schoolchildren and orphans to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and underserved communities—during a period often marked by heightened economic pressure.

At the heart of this continent-wide intervention is a philosophy rooted in empathy and sustainability: that meaningful development begins with meeting basic human needs while creating opportunities for growth and resilience.

Touching Lives Across Nigeria
In Nigeria, the Foundation’s reach spanned the length and breadth of the country, cutting across regions and socio-economic divides. Beneficiaries included orphanages, children’s homes, and IDP camps such as the Daughters of Mercy Mother of Mary Orphanage Home in Abia State; Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans and the Helpless in Ebonyi; the Destitute Home, Okobaba in Lagos; Oyiza Orphanage and Foster Foundation in Oyo; Itsoghena Orphanage Home in Edo; Enoima Children Home in Akwa Ibom; Yekope Orphanage in Kogi; IDP camps in Niger and Borno States; UMCN Orphanage Home in Taraba; Kebbi Children’s Home; and the Orphanage Home in Dutse, Jigawa State.

At the Destitute Home in Okobaba, Lagos, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA Foundation, Bola Atta, personally led the distribution of non-perishable food items and educational materials to both adults and children—underscoring the Foundation’s hands-on approach to humanitarian service.

A Commitment Beyond Borders
Beyond Nigeria, the Foundation replicated similar interventions across Africa, reaching communities in Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. In these countries, several hundreds of thousands of individuals benefitted from nutritional and humanitarian support, reinforcing UBA Foundation’s unique position as one of Africa’s most impactful corporate philanthropies.
Speaking during one of the outreach visits, Atta emphasised the Foundation’s belief in year-round impact rather than seasonal charity.

“At UBA Foundation, we believe that true development begins with compassion and action. Through our Food Bank and Giving Back initiatives, we are not only providing nourishment and essential support, but also restoring hope and creating pathways for children and families to learn, grow, and thrive,” she said.

“This is our commitment to Africa: to show up consistently, act responsibly, and leave no community behind.”
She further explained that the interventions are designed to go beyond immediate relief.
“Our various interventions aim to support people by equipping them not only with the right tools but also with the essential nourishment required for cognitive development and physical well-being,” Atta added.

A Legacy of Purpose-Driven Impact
The recent outreach builds on UBA Foundation’s long-standing tradition of philanthropy across the continent. Over the years, the Foundation has implemented transformative programmes such as the National Essay Competition, Read Africa Project, Tree Planting for Sustainability, Health Outreaches, Each One Teach One, Kindness Connect, and the Food Bank Initiative—all targeted at education, environmental sustainability, economic empowerment, and poverty alleviation.

As the CSR arm of the UBA Group, the Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to drive socio-economic development in the communities where the bank operates. With education, environmental stewardship, economic empowerment, and special intervention projects at the core of its strategy, UBA Foundation continues to demonstrate that corporate responsibility, when guided by empathy and vision, can become a powerful force for continental transformation.

In a time when vulnerability cuts across borders, UBA Foundation’s actions send a clear message: Africa’s future is strongest when no community is left behind.
