LG CHAIRMAN PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR MINI-DEMOGRAPHIC AND HEALTH SURVEY
The Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, has disclosed that the Local government council will support the 2026 Nigeria Mini-Demographic and Health Survey (Mini-DHS), describing the exercise as critical to effective national planning and grassroots development.
Hon. Lawal gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the National Population Commission (NPC) from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, led by the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government NPC Comptroller, Mrs. Abosede Adewuyi, during a familiarisation visit to the Chairman.
The Local government boss revealed that the LG was among the most populous and commercially vibrant areas in Nigeria, making it central to any national data-gathering initiative.
“Our population size makes us a key player in any national data exercise, we fully understand the importance of this survey and would provide all the necessary support to ensure that NPC officials collect accurate, credible and reliable data," she said.
Responding, the Ado-Odo/Ota Local government NPC Comptroller, Mrs. Abosede Adewuyi, expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded them and reaffirmed the NPC’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and adherence to global best practices throughout the survey process.
She explained that the Mini-DHS was designed to generate vital data on health indicators, fertility patterns and population dynamics to support evidence-based policy making at all levels of government.
Providing further details on the scope of the exercise, a member of the NPC representative from Abuja, Mr. Ogbonna Oluchi, disclosed that six communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government—Abule Iroko, Aparadija, Ago Eto, Igbele Ota, Tigbo Ilu and Arobieye, were selected for the survey.
According to him, the exercise would target males and females between the ages of 15 and 59 and would be conducted over a one-week period by two dedicated field teams.
Also speaking, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Babatunde Adesina, urged the NPC team to maintain open communication with the Council and ensure the submission of timely and structured progress reports.
