25th Coronation Anniversary: Onilogbo Recounts Milestones, Projects Greater Achievements

The Onilogbo of Ilogbo, Oba Samuel Olufemi Ojugbele, has highlighted major infrastructural, educational and socio-economic milestones recorded in Ilogbo community to include include the resuscitation of the Ilogbo Asowo Secondary School, the revitalisation of the Catholic School, and the construction of blocks of classrooms by Shell Gas to mark his 70th birthday.

The monarch made this known during a press briefing held at his palace in Ota to herald activities lined up for the silver jubilee of his reign.

Oba Ojugbele said his 25 years on the throne have been characterised by tangible development projects that have transformed Ilogbo and given the community a new lease of life.

He also appreciated the dualization of the Ilogbo road from Oju-Ore to Iwoye by Shell Gas to celebrate his 80th birthday, describing it as a landmark project that has opened up the community, improved accessibility and significantly enhanced its aesthetic outlook.

The monarch noted that when he was crowned 25 years ago, his domain extended as far as Owode-Ijako, adding that the emergence of five additional traditional rulers over the years has not weakened unity, but rather strengthened governance through cordial relationships and mutual respect.

“Ilogbo has remained relatively peaceful over the years due to effective synergy among security agencies and traditional institutions,” he said, adding that there has been remarkable improvement in educational development across the community.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Oba Ojugbele recounted his life’s transitions from education to teaching, from legal practice to traditional rulership, as well as the challenges he faced, including health issues, prolonged legal battles and threats to his life.

“God eventually calmed the storm and blessed me beyond my expectations. That is why I have declared the year 2026 as my year of raising God for His unspeakable peace and joy in my life,” the monarch stated.

He disclosed that activities to mark the 25th anniversary of his reign, scheduled for October 20, 2026, will include the conferment of chieftaincy titles on deserving individuals who have supported him and the community over the years.

He also plans to present merit awards to schools, pastors, corporate organisations and individuals in appreciation of their contributions to his life and the development of Ilogbo adding that special recognition will be given to two palace staff members, particularly Obankie Taliat Adegboyega, who has served faithfully for the past 25 years.

Oba Ojugbele further announced plans to celebrate his 83rd birthday on April 27, 2026, alongside the 60th remembrance service of his late father.

Speaking on behalf of the palace staff, the palace secretary, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akofiranmi, expressed deep appreciation to the monarch for his compassion and support towards staff welfare revealing that Oba Ojugbele personally sponsored the education of two of her children to higher institutions, noting that similar acts of generosity have been extended to other staff members.

The 25th Coronation Anniversary, observers say, stands as both a celebration of longevity on the throne and a testament to sustained development, peace and leadership in Ilogbo community.
