LIRS Staff Raises Alarm Over Alleged Coercion and Lack of Fair Hearing
A staff member of the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has raised concerns over alleged coercion and denial of fair hearing following an internal query issued against colleague.
According to information gathered, the female staff member—whose name is being withheld for professional reasons—was reportedly accused of assaulting a colleague, Mr. Suleiman Folorunsho, who joined the agency last year.
Sources within the agency allege that after responding formally to the query as required, the staff member was pressured to write a statement admitting to the alleged assault.
She allegedly refused, insisting that she had committed no such act and deserved a transparent and unbiased investigation.
Insiders claim that Mr. Suleiman Folorunsho is related to a senior official in the agency, Mr. Rasheed Olu Ajayi, who currently serves as the Head of IT. Some staff members allege that this relationship may be influencing the handling of the matter, raising concerns about fairness and the possible abuse of internal processes.
Several employees who spoke anonymously expressed worry over what they described as a growing culture of intimidation, where individuals connected to senior officials appear to enjoy undue protection while others face pressure to accept wrongdoing they may not have committed.
Calls have now been directed toward the Head of the Human Resources Unit, Mrs Omobola Oguntimehin, urging him to intervene promptly, ensure due process is followed, and restore confidence in the agency’s disciplinary system. Staff members emphasize that proper investigation, fair hearing, and impartiality are essential to maintaining workplace integrity.
The concerned staff member is reportedly seeking justice and transparency in the matter, maintaining that she only wants the truth established without fear or favor.
As of press time, LIRS has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
