WAEC Admits Technical Glitch In Results, Gives New Directive
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has apologised to candidates and the general public after discovering technical glitches in the recently released 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 7, from its Yaba headquarters in Lagos, WAEC through its Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina admitted to a technical glitch linked to one of its anti-malpractice innovations.Best online courses
WAEC explained that it had introduced a security measure known as paper serialisation in key subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics to curb examination malpractice. The strategy, already in use by another national examination body, was deployed for the first time during this year’s exams.
However, after releasing the results, WAEC said its internal team identified unexpected technical bugs that affected the accuracy of some of the scores.
“As part of our integrity-driven innovations, paper serialisation was introduced this year to strengthen our fight against malpractice,” the council said. “Unfortunately, this measure led to technical challenges in the results processing phase.”
WAEC has since suspended access to the results on its online portal as engineers work to resolve the issue.
The council assured students and the public that the affected errors would be corrected within the next 24 hours, with revised scores expected to reflect once the platform is restored.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience this has caused our candidates and their families,” the statement read. “We are working around the clock to resolve the issue and restore full access to the portal with accurate results.”
WAEC further urged candidates who had already checked their results to revisit the portal after the 24-hour window to confirm any changes.
Despite technical the glitch, WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and professionalism in its operations, promising to continue improving its processes for the benefit of all stakeholders.
