Oro Festival: LASU Issues Movement Restrictions for Students, Staff members in Iba community
The authority of Lagos State University has refrained both the students and staffed members from unnecessary movement within the Iba community during the stipulated hours of Monday, 25th August, and Friday, 29th August 2025, between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
The Lagos State University (LASU) community was abuzz with the official notice from the Management regarding the upcoming Oro festival rites in Iba Kingdom.
The annual celebration, scheduled to take place over nine days, was a significant event in the community, and the University wanted to ensure the safety and well-being of its staff and students.
The Management's instructions were a testament to the University's commitment to the safety and welfare of its community members adding that the Palace of the Oniba of Iba, Oba (Dr) Sulaimon Adeshina Raji-Ashade, had formally communicated the festival's schedule, and the University was keen to ensure a peaceful coexistence between the community and the University.
As the festival approached, staff and students made necessary adjustments to their schedules, planning their activities around the Oro rites. The University's Centre for Information and Public Relations was available to provide further clarification and support, should anyone need it.
On the designated days, the Iba community came alive with the sounds and colors of the Oro festival. The University's staff and students, respectful of the community's traditions, stayed indoors or planned their activities accordingly. The festival passed without incident, a testament to the University's efforts to promote understanding and cooperation between the community and the University.
As the celebration came to a close, the LASU community reflected on the importance of respecting cultural traditions.
