  NCC Sensitizes NYSC Members on Data Depletion, Consumer Rights





The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has emphasized the importance of data management and consumer rights in the telecommunications industry.

 Mrs. Freda Ruth Bruce-Bennett, Director of the Consumer Affairs Bureau at NCC, delivered a keynote speech at the NYSC Orientation Camp Sensitization Programme on August 7, 2025.

She said  NCC has received increasing complaints about data depletion, which affects the quality of experience and overall consumer satisfaction in the telecoms industry adding that several factors contribute to excessive data usage, including:Streaming Activities*: Video and music streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify consume large amounts of data.Social Media: High-resolution images and videos on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter can quickly use up data.

Commission (NCC) has emphasized the importance of data management and consumer rights in the telecommunications industry. "The NCC urged NYSC members to become Consumer Champions by:
- *Spreading Awareness*: Educating friends, family, and local communities about consumer rights and protections.
Informing others about the NCC's initiatives and how to enjoy better quality of experience.
Reporting challenges, sharing feedback, and helping the NCC serve consumers better".

The NCC reaffirmed its commitment to creating a telecom environment that is fair, competitive, inclusive, and consumer-friendly. The Commission emphasized the importance of consumer participation in shaping policy and driving progress in the telecom sector.
