WhatsApp has announced the launch of new features for its Updates tab, which includes Channels and Status. The Updates tab has become a popular destination for users, with over 1.5 billion users accessing it daily.
The new features include:
- Channel subscriptions: allowing users to support their favorite Channels by paying a monthly fee for exclusive content.
- Promoted Channels: enabling admins to boost their presence and grow their Channel by appearing in search results.
- Status Ads: allowing Channels and businesses to pay to appear in Status, making it easier for users to start conversations about products or services.
These features are designed to enhance the user experience and provide more opportunities for admins, organizations, and businesses to engage with their audiences. Importantly, WhatsApp has emphasized that these features are built with privacy in mind, and personal messages, calls, and statuses remain end-to-end encrypted.
The new features will appear in the Updates tab, separate from personal chats, ensuring that users who only use WhatsApp for personal conversations will not be affected.
