Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyensom Wike has declared leading engineering construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC as a very trustworthy partner for the progress of the federal capital and the country at large. He spoke last Friday at the commissioning of the first phase of N5 Arterial Road in Abuja even as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his thanks to the company for another job well done.

 

Recalling how he got to meet the Managing Director of Julius Berger, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch, the minister said that it was perhaps, ordained for them to work together as what was a casual meeting in Germany when he was still Rivers state governor sooner manifested into a strong relationship back home in Nigeria, now that he is a federal minister.

 

The minister recalled that he first met the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria in Wiesbaden, Germany when, as a state governor, he led his team from Rivers state to negotiate for the construction of the ongoing Port Harcourt Ring Road project. He added that with the later assumption of  of Lubasch as the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria their bond has strenghtened.

Wike continued;  so, when he eventually came, I said to him, MD, I’m aware the project timeline is about one year and three months, but I want you to ensure that this becomes part of Mr. President’s second-year anniversary achievements.

 

Underlining the trustworthiness of the construction company, the minister said, as an organisation in business, making the right payments for its usual quality job is the known hallmark of Julius Berger. He added however that the company soft pedalled in that respect for the ministry and government to begin work on Road N5 ahead of payment.

 

Of course, you know Julius Berger, the money must be on ground, but they told me that they know that this administration has given contractors confidence that they will always pay and they assured me that in the second year anniversary of Mr. President that this will be part of the projects that Mr. President will inaugurate, Wike said.

 

He therefore thanked Julius Berger for being so full of trust in keeping their promise saying: I want to sincerely thank them for keeping to their words, and I assure them that we will do everything possible to see that this administration takes this road to the Ring Road 3 and then take it to the Airport.

 

On his own part, President Tinubu who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief George Akume, also commended the company for its consistency in doing great jobs.

 

He said: thank you Mr. Wike and all the residents and stakeholders who have made this project a reality. Thank you, Julius Berger, for a job well done. With the commissioning of this road, traffic circulation along the districts of Dape, Gwarinpa 1, Kado, Karsana, Idu, Mbora will greatly ease while further decongesting traffic gridlock around Lifecamp junction and adjourning neighbourhood.

 

In his speech at the historic event, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, said the company’s commitment to excellence is deeply rooted in its history, adding, the company has consistently delivered projects that meet and exceed international standards, on time within scope and with outstanding quality.

 

He thus declared: the successful delivery of this project in a record time is yet another testament to the enduring values that define our company: professionalism, efficiency, quality and excellence.

 

Thanking the FCT administration on behalf of the company’s Board, management and staff, for the opportunity to serve the government, the Managing Director said record achievements like the completion of the N5 road are made possible only through strong partnerships, particularly the unwavering support and collaboration from the FCTA, under the leadership of the Minister.

 

Apart from the company’s Managing Director, the Manager in charge of Region North and Central, Oliver Berger, Project Manager, Johnny Houchan and the Region’s Project Coordinator, Engr. Dr. Ismaila Amodu were among the key Julius Berger Team members that graced the commissioning exercise.
