Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Establishes Committee on Food and Nutrition
The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing public health by establishing a Committee on Food and Nutrition.
The committee's inauguration was marked by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abosede Balogun, who was represented by Mrs. Tijani Olaiya Abimbola, Supervisor for Community Development.
During the inauguration, Hon. Abosede expressed her appreciation to the Federal and State Governments for initiating the food and nutrition program, which aims to improve the well-being of the people.
She also thanked the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, for his support in this endeavor.
The committee's objectives are multifaceted and include:
- Integrated management of acute malnutrition in children under five
- Control of micronutrient deficiencies
- Nutrition interventions for school-age children, adolescents, and the elderly
- Programs focused on maternal, infant, and young child feeding
The committee comprises 15 members, including health experts and community leaders, who were tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of the committee's objectives. Hon. Abosede Balogun was appointed as the Chairperson, while Mr. Bakare Mudashiru serves as the Secretary.
In his remarks, Mr. Rasak Paul Oyekan, Supervisor for Health and Environment, urged the committee to excel in their duties and communicate effectively with the community using local dialects. Dr. Jeleel Bakare, Health Secretary, appreciated the local government's efforts in complementing federal and state initiatives.
The establishment of the Committee on Food and Nutrition demonstrates Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government's commitment to public health, recognizing the significance of nutrition in promoting the well-being of its citizens.
