WE ’LL CONDUCT INTERGRITY TEST ON COLLAPSED BUILDING - ABIODUN
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured that the pre-requisite quality and integrity test will be done on the collapsed building at Mayigi Community Comprehensive School, Ilase in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State.
Recall that it was reported that a rainstorm destroyed classrooms in the school, leaving a 14-year old pupil dead and five others, including two teachers, the school food vendor and her seven-month-old child injured.
Governor Abiodun, who made this known during an on-the spot assessment of the school, stated that the building would not be in use until the structural integrity test was completed.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor assured that government would do all within its power to ensure that such occurrence does not occur in public schools across the state, adding that the Zonal Education Officers had been directed to go around schools in the community to identify such abandoned buildings, in order not to put learners at risk.
He also visited the victims of the building collapse receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Ipokia, saying his administration remains committed to delivering qualitative and quantitative education to all learners of school age across the State.
The State's helmsman used the opportunity to visit the parents of the deceased Timothy Amosun, a 14 years old learner of Junior Secondary School Three (JSS3), to commiserate with them on the passing of their son, pledging government's support, as well as continued safety of pupils by ensuring that infrastructures in schools were in good condition.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Moses Amosun, appreciated the State government for the love shown indicating that they were not alone, though it was a painful loss.

GOV. ABIODUN VISITS LATE MAJOR AKINLADE COUNTRY HOME, SYMPATHISES WITH FAMILY.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has sympathised with the Akinlade family on the demise of their patriarch, Major Mikail Akinlade, who was the father of the former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade, describing it as a big loss, not only to the entire family, but to the State in general.
Governor Abiodun stated this, while paying a condolence visit to the country home of the deceased, at Agosasa in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State, noting that the deceased's exemplary life had reflected in the character of his children.
The Governor, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, added that the late Major's good character had impacted positively on the lives of others, who were not his relatives, just as he had contributed his quota to the development of his community.
"Papa was a leader, a devout Muslim and a man of integrity. I pray that Almighty Allah will comfort the family he left behind and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss", he said.
In his short word of exhortation, the Chief Imam of Ipokia, Sheik Ibrahim Akanbi, enjoined all sympathisers to live a life worthy of emulation, be kind to the people around them and remain close to their creator, saying no one knows the appointed time that death would come.

'DRIVE DEVELOPMENT TO YOUR COMMUNITY'
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has tasked the first Coronet Oba in Oko-Eiye, Oba John Fadoungbo to utilise his position to drive development to the community.
Governor Abiodun gave the charge at the installation and Presentation of Staff of Office to the new Oloko-Eiye of Oko-Eiye in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Governor noted that the monarch's appointment was a call to serve his people, calling on him to champion all efforts that would further enhance peaceful co-existence with neigbhouring communities.
Remarking, the Chairman, Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohome, lauded the Governor’s benevolence at upgrading the Baaleship stool of Oko-Eiye to a coronet obaship stool.
He enjoined the citizens to cooperate with the monarch to bring good development to the community, while urging the Oloko-Eiye to partner with the present administration to move the state to the next level.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Fadoungbo expressed gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support, pledging to commit and concentrate all necessary efforts to achieve greatness of Oko-Eiye land, Ipokia Local Government and the State at large.
In the same vein, Governor Abiodun has installed Oba Isaac Akinlolu as the new Onimede of Mede Ogosa and Ajegunle in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, Governor Abiodun described the installation and presentation of the staff of office to the new monarch as a momentous event in the history of Mede Ogosa and Ajegunle communities.
He emphasised that the speedy development of Mede Ogosa and Ajegunle depends on the peace and unity of the communities, urging the people to prioritise enhancing their potentials to fast-track economic growth.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Akinlolu thanked the State government for upgrading Mede Ogosa and Ajegunle land to a traditional stool.
He promised to lead, administer the affairs of the people and promote the rich cultural heritage of the land.

OGUN HoS URGES ACCOUNTANTS TO EMBRACE CONTINUOUS SELF-DEVELOPMENT
Accountants in Ogun State’s Civil Service have been urged to be proactive in building their careers, develop essential skills and uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties.
The State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, made the call at the 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Ogun State Accountants' Forum, at Oba's Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, emphasising the need for continuous training, teamwork and professionalism in the accounting profession.
Mr. Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for creating a conducive work environment, ensuring regular training and employing more accountants into the State's Civil Service.
The HoS encouraged them to develop emotional intelligence, think creatively, and adapt to various situations, adding that teamwork and collaboration were crucial elements that enhance productivity and efficiency, as well as building strategic partnerships within the public sector, while developing strong presentation and communication skills.
"Knowing how to effectively engage an audience and present ideas convincingly is a crucial skill that makes work more impactful and widely accepted", he said.
In his address, the Accountant General/Permanent Secretary (Treasury), Mr. Tunde Aregbesola, charged members to be good ambassadors in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), stressing the need for teamwork and professionalism in efficient delivery of service, encouraging members to uphold diligence and unity, while ensuring that the forum continues to grow stronger.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mrs. Funmilayo Dada, admonished the Accountants to be role models in their respective agencies, saying their contributions to the State’s development would speak for them in the future.
"Success will always find those who are hardworking. As Accountants, we must dot our Is, cross our Ts, and remain accountable at all times", she said.
In a goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo, described Accountants as the heartbeat of the State, playing a crucial role in financial management, urging them to remain dedicated, uphold ethical standards and support the government’s fiscal policies, especially in revenue generation and debt management.
She said it was essential for them to embrace continuous learning and networking to keep up with global accounting trends.
Remarking, the Chairman of the Accountants' Forum, Mr. Peter Taiwo, highlighted the forum’s achievements, including, providing training opportunities, advocating good governance and ensuring professional development.
He expressed gratitude to the State government for its continued support, particularly in sponsoring members to annual conferences of professional bodies, such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), saying the trainings had contributed to the efficient delivery of their duties and commitment to the profession.
Also speaking, a former Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service, Mr. Kunle Shodeinde, noted that Accountants must strive to "know everything about something and something about everything", underscoring diligence, honesty, excellence, selflessness and integrity, as core values that would make them outstanding in their field.
Responding on behalf of the retired members, who were celebrated at the forum, Mrs. Funke Adeniran, expressed appreciation to the Accountants' Forum for recognising their years of service.
She acknowledged the support and camaraderie shared among members and emphasised that the forum had provided them with a platform for professional growth and networking throughout their careers, calling on members to remain dedicated, uphold the values of integrity and excellence, as well as continue to contribute to the progress of the profession and the state.
Highlight of the event was the send-off ceremony for retired members, the launch of the Forum’s official ties and scarves, as well as the presentation of awards to outgoing executives, in recognition of their contributions.

OGSG ISSUES 2025 FLOOD ALERT
In its effort towards reducing the impact of flood in the State in the rainy season, the Ogun State Government has issued a flood alert, warning residents of heavy downpour within 16 Local Government Areas of the State.
Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, gave the warning at the 2025 Edition of Flood Alert Press Conference, at the Ministry's Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the State had been identified as one of the major flood prone areas in the country.
According to Oresanya, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), had predicted that rainfall would commence early March, 2025.
"The rainfall prediction for Ogun State commenced early in March, while Little Dry Spell (LDS), was expected in the State from July 21 and it would last between 27 to 40 days.
“NIMET prediction shows that from April to June, 2025, there is likely to be Severe Dry Spell (SDS) above 15days, after the establishment of rain. The prediction also identified 16 Local Government Areas as flood prone zones.
"Residents of Ijebu-Ode, Ota, Owode, Abeokuta, Onihale in Ifo, Sagamu, Iperu and Ilishan were advised to be wary of flash floods expected between March and July, 2025.
"Those living on floodplains of Isheri, Akute, Warewa, Oke-Afa, Owa and Yemule river bank in Ijebu-Ode, Ifaara Ebute-Oni, Ayede- Ayila, Makun, Iwopin and Igele in Ogun Waterside, Ebute-Imobi in Ijebu- East, Sokori, Arakonga and Onikoko river in Abeokuta. Eruwumu, Eri, Ibu, Majipa Odan and Sensen in Sagamu and Ijammido, Ilo, Erukomu, Isakale in Ado-Odo Local Government Area, among others, are advised to relocate to safer grounds before the coastal flood between September and November, 2025", he said.
Oresanya stressed that Community Development Associations (CDA's), motorists and other road users should educate their residents not to dump refuse on drainage channels and river/streams.
The Commissioner said the State government in the past 5 years, had desilted 988.3km of rivers/streams and drainage channels, just as it constructed 698m in length of concrete drainage and culvers across the State.
Earlier in his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Hon. Kayode Akimade, advised residents to obey the 2025 Flood Alert, to ensure safety of lives and property in the State.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Sam Oyeleye, assured that, the Ministry, in collaboration with other relevant agencies would ensure the safety and wellbeing of citizens of Ogun State, while calling on the community leaders, traditional rulers and the public to cooperate and support government's efforts in preventing flood in the State.
In his presentation at the event, the Director of Flood and Erosion Control, Engr. Ismail Adenuga, rolled out steps taken to prevent flood which include, desilting of drainage channels, rivers/streams.
Speaking on behalf of OOMIC Fish Farmers, Ilase, Ipokia Local Government Area, Comrade Johnson Adetona, appreciated the Ministry for desilting Giyanu stream, to prevent flooding which had previously affected their fish farms in the area.

RAINSTORM HAVOC: OGSG VISITS DECEASED FAMILY, OTHER VICTIMS IN HOSPITAL
Sequel to the havoc wrecked by the rainstorm at the Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School, Ilase in Ipokia Local Government Area, a team from Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, led by the Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, visited the school and commiserated with the community.
The rainstorm, which occurred while students were writing their Second Term examinations, destroyed several classrooms and left one student dead, with 12 other students critically injured, two male teachers and two food vendors also sustained various degrees of injuries.
Prof. Arigbabu, accompanied by a team comprised of Ministry of Education and the State Teaching Service Commission, visited the family of the deceased, Timothy Amosun, a 14 years old learner of Junior Secondary School Three (JS3), expressing dismay over the incidence he referred to as, rude shock, praying God to give the family fortitude to bear the loss.
The Commissioner also visited other victims at the General Hospital, Idiroko and Sango Ota, empathised with them and prayed for their soonest recovery, as he assured them of the government's proactive intervention for adequate treatment and well-being.
Addressing the school management, students and Ilase Community, Prof. Arigbabu said, "the government will conduct integrity tests on all the school buildings across the State, to avoid future occurrence and for adequate provisions".
Speaking, Alase of Ilase, Oba Adewale Olaifa stated that the collapsed building was built by the community before it was taken over by the government two years ago, commending the team for symphatising with them, as he solicited for more presence.
Contributing, a community leader, Hon. James Odutola, assured that the parents would not be discouraged to bring their children back to school and would continue to support the government's policies for further development.

REMO STUDENTS RECEIVE CASH GIFTS FOR ACADEMIC SUPPORT
In a significant effort to enhance educational outcomes in Ogun State, 36 students from government secondary schools across the Remo area have received cash gifts from the Emperor Oyen Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), to enable them register for the June/July 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
Speaking during the presentation of the sponsorship letters, at the Odofin of Soyindo Palace in Sagamu, Head of Academy and School Services, Sagamu Local Government Education Authority, Mrs. Morayo Rabiu, praised the NGO's contributions to the development of education in the State.
She emphasised the importance of such philanthropic initiatives, urging teachers and parents to continue to support students in their educational journey.
Delivering the cash gifts on behalf of the Emperor Oyen Foundation, the Odofin of Soyindo, Oba Samuel Gisanrin, encouraged other philanthropists in Remoland to contribute to the development of the local education sector.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Emperor Oyen Foundation, Mr. Sola Osilaru, highlighted the organisation's commitment to giving back to the community, explaining that the initiative not only aims to cover NECO registration fees but also monitor the students during their examinations, towards ensuring they achieve excellent results.
He disclosed plans to sponsor the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) fees for students who performed well on their NECO examinations.
"During the selection process, students who demonstrated potential but faced financial challenges were randomly selected from public secondary schools in Remoland. Beneficiaries included seven students from Remo North, 11 from Ikenne Local Government and 18 from Sagamu Local Government.
"The Emperor Oyen Foundation's generous gesture reflects a commitment to improving education and supporting young learners in Remoland, promising a brighter future for the community’s youth", he said.
In his contribution, President Sagamu Youth Association, Comrade Olugbega Lawal, advised the recipients to maximize the opportunity and strive towards academic excellence, emphasising the importance of being good ambassadors and inspiring others so that future collaborations with the foundation could continue.
Miss Rachel Olutimehin from Prof. Ogunlesi Model School in Likosi, expressed gratitude on behalf of other beneficiaries, promised to take full advantage of the opportunity, stating that the initiative would motivate them to excel in their studies.
