In furtherance of the State Government's commitment to traditional institutions in Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun has installed Oba Abdullateef Amodemaja as the Olu of Mapara Kingdom in Moboluwaduro Town, Ifo, Ogun State.


The Governor while presenting the Staff of Office to the new Monarch, noted that the present administration was keen on ensuring traditional institutions are properly positioned to replicate the dividends of good governance in their domains where Mapara Kingdom is not an exception.


Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Governor added that the presentation of the staff of office to the new Monarch was a call to serve and that all hands must be on deck to pave the way for development in the land.


In his goodwill message, the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Suliamon Gbamigbade, congratulated the Monarch on his installation, praying that his reign would be accompanied by remarkable growth.


On his part, the Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Idris Kusimo, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to upgrade the Baaleship position to a coronet stool.


He noted that with the wealth of experience of the Monarch, he needed to harness resources to propel the socio-economic development of the Mapara Kingdom.


In his acceptance speech, Oba Amodemaja expressed his appreciation to the Governor for honouring Mapara with an Obaship stool, promising to lead with compassion and justice, urging all inhabitants of Mapara to join in turning the land into a hub of all-round development.

Governor Abiodun has underscored the importance of the partnership between the government and traditional institutions as vital to the growth and development of the State.


The Governor made this known at the Installation and Presentation of the Staff of Office to the new Onilisa of Lisa, Oba Oladele Odugbemi, in Ifo Local Government.


Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Governor said the presentation of the staff of office to the Monarch symbolises not only authority and responsibility, but also unity, progress, and cultural pride that bind the people together.


"We realise the fact that traditional institutions and their leadership must be properly positioned, as it serves as a bridge between the people at the grassroots and the government," he said.


Speaking, the Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Olamilekan Kusimo, congratulated the Monarch for his resilience and dedication to the growth of the community.


He noted that meaningful development can only take place in an atmosphere devoid of rancor and trouble, praying that the Monarch's reign would be marked by wisdom, strength, and abundant blessings.


Oba Odugbemi, in his acceptance address, expressed gratitude to the Governor for deeming him fit for the exalted position, pledging his unwavering commitment to the upliftment and development of Lisa and its inhabitants.

OGSG CALLS ON INDUSTRIAL PARTNERS, POLICY MAKERS TO ADOPT CLEAN ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES


Ogun State Government has called on chemical handlers, Industrial partners and policy makers to adopt clean energy technologies, including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and renewable energy solutions which will prioritise environmental compliance and ensure long-term sustainability.


Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made the call while declaring opened the third edition of the Chemical Handlers and Users Workshop, put together by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) with the theme: "Clean Energy for a Healthier State-Reducing Pollution Through Sustainable Energy Solution".


Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyelede, Governor Abiodun said it was by adopting these technologies that the State would reduce pollution, improve public health and build a legacy of sustainability for future generations.


He urged the participants of the workshop to actively engage, share insight and contribute towards actionable recommendations that would shape the State government's policies and programmes, noting that the State would continue to lead in environmental stewardship, exemplified by key initiatives such as waste-to resource revolution, electric mobility leadership and the Ogun Ignite Youth Empowerment Programme.


In his remark, Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya said the workshop had evolved into a pivotal platform for discussing innovative solutions, enforcing compliance and fostering accountability in chemical safety and environmental protection, while reiterating the State government's commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment.


Speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Farook Akintunde, stated that clean energy represent a pathway towards reducing harmful emission and combating climate change which could only be achieved through collective efforts and commitment.

AVOID CYBERCRIME PITFALLS, HOS TELLS JOURNALISTS


Journalists have been called upon to consciously avoid the pitfalls of cybercrime, which includes cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and property theft, among others, while charging them to always fact-check before publishing as facts are sacred.


The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, made the call against the backdrop of allegations of cybercrime offense committed by a journalist as part of activities lined up at the decoration of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, by the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held in Abeokuta.


According to him, journalists must always practice responsible journalism against the harrowing experiences that would be passed through if arrested and prosecuted for offenses that could be avoided in the course of discharging their watchdog duties.


Describing the honour of the "Pillar of Good Governance" award conferred on Dr. Taiwo as a proof of his dedication to good governance, strategic leadership, and quality support to the present administration in the State, the Head of Service said the honour was a well-deserved one, in acknowledgment of dedication to service and accountability in governance.


"This recognition coming from the media, the watchdog of the society, speaks volumes about Dr. Taiwo's significant role and credibility in the governance structure in Ogun State. The media, as the mirror of society, does not bestow accolades lightly, rather, it recognises those who have genuinely distinguished themselves through their actions and impact.


"Dr. Taiwo's leadership and administrative acumen have been evident in his various roles within the Ogun State Government, including his tenure as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and later as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, while his elevation to the position of the Chief of Staff has only reinforced his reputation as a diligent, strategic and highly competent public servant," the HoS said.


Onasanya congratulated the awardee on the prestigious honour, while urging him to let the recognition spur him to continue to contribute his wealth of experience to the advancement of governance and keep moving the State to greater heights.


He also commended the NUJ for the noble initiative of recognising individuals who have made significant impacts in governance and the society at large, charging them to continue to discharge their duties with the utmost professionalism, and sense of responsibility, constructive criticism, and make objectivity their watch word, saying, well-informed society was crucial to national development.

OGSG TO COMMENCE EXTENSION OF RAIL LINES, PRESENTS STMP TO NRC


The Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Transportation has  presented the State's Strategic (Multi-Modal)Transportation Master Plan (STMP) to the Nigeria Railway Corporation under the directorship of Dr. Kayode Opeifa.


 Commissioner For Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo while presenting STMP to the NRC team at the Corporation's Conference Room, in Lagos during a courtesy visit by the  State  representatives, said the visit served three different purposes towards establishing the state's interest and  developing rail lines in the State


He listed the three different purposes to to include, the presentation of Governor Dapo Abiodun's congratulations to the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa on his well-deserved appointment, secondly, the Ogun State Strategic Transportation Master Plan (STMP) and thirdly, was the commence of process for the implementation of the rail sub-sector interventions in Ogun State, specifically the Lagos Red and Blue Line extensions which enjoy the support of the Federal and Lagos State Governments.


He re-affirmed the commitment of Governor  Dapo Abiodun-led administration to facilitate sustainable mobility across the State.


In his remark, Dr.Kayode Opeifa, who expressed delight in the visitation, said it would deepen infrastructural relationships, as the NRC and Ogun State have a lot to play out in rail development and assured the State of every cooperation on the implementation of the rail extension projects


"Today, I want to assure Ogun State of our support. Part of our mandate is to deepen relationships and assist State Governments to expand their rail infrastructure and negotiate,"he said.


Dr. Opeifa affirmed the NRC's intention was to commence mass transit rail services along the narrow gauge rail infrastructure in Ogun State and solicited the State 's cooperation in achieving this effort.

OGSG, UNICEF TO COMMENCE HPV VACCINATION IN 12 LGAs


In an effort to reduce cervical cancer cases in the country and increase immunity of vulnerable girls in the state, the Ogun State Government in collaboration with the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF has commenced an intensification programme on Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in 12 Local Government Areas of the state.


The Director, Disease control and Immunisation, Ogun State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Thomas Solarin, disclosed this while briefing members of the State Social Mobilisation Committee in Abeokuta during the stakeholders meeting.


He stated that the intensification programme was needed following the routinisation of vaccination across Health facilities in the state which recorded less than 60 percent of targeted girls of 9-14years, leaving over 40 percent unprotected against HPV, which put them at risk of having the virus in future.


Solarin enjoined mothers and caregivers in Abeokuta South, Ado-odo/ Ota, Ifo, Ijebu East, Ijebu North, Ikenne, Obafemi Owode, Odeda, Odogbolu, Sagamu, Ipokia and Yewa North Local Government Areas to visit designated centres, Health Facilities with their girls from ages 9-14yrs to get vaccinated for free.


In their goodwill messages, the UNICEF VSL consultant, Mrs. Florence Moloku and the State Coordinator, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Victoria Adebiyi, appreciated the efforts of the SSMC Members on their constant efforts and commitment at ensuring immunisation campaign at their various domains, seeking more support in creating awareness and mobilising for the programme which would run for Six (6) weeks.

FLOOD ALERT: OGSG WARNS RESIDENTS TO CLEAR DRAINAGES


In a bid to ensure a flood-free communities across the State, the Ogun State Government has issued a warning to residents, particularly Community Development Associations (CDAs) and landlords, to clear their drainages in preparation for the rainy season.


Director, Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (OGSEMA), Mr. Wale Shonde, announced this in a press release at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.


He advised motorists and road users to avoid flooded roads during rainfall, urging CDAs to educate residents on proper waste disposal and environmental safety.


According to the Director, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) predicts heavy downpours with intensity ranging from 965mm to 1805mm, which could exacerbate flooding in vulnerable communities.


The release emphasised that the State Government would take strict action against those who fail to comply with these guidelines.

OGCSC SETS TO CONDUCT 2023/2024 UPGRADING/INTER-CADRE EXERCISE


Ogun State Civil Service Commission has concluded necessary arrangements to conduct the first stage of 2023/2024 Upgrading/Inter-cadre exercise for officers seeking transfer into various cadres in the Civil Service.


       The release signed by the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adewuyi Adesoji, stated that the computer-Based Test (CBT) for the exercise had been scheduled to hold on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Federal University of Agriculture Alabata, Abeokuta, at its 500 and 250 ICT centre by 9.00am.


       The release indicated that candidates who have successfully submitted their application forms for the Upgrading/Inter-cadre transfer exercise were to collect their examination Identity cards at Room 244, Block A, Civil Service Commission on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.                                                    


      It stated that candidates were expected to come along with both Ogun State staff and Civil Service Commission Identity Cards to the examination venue, adding that telephones and other electronic devices would not be allowed into the examination Hall.

GOVERNOR’S AIDES DOLES OUT CASH PRIZES TO ELEMENTARY PUPILS IN SAGAMU


In line with the government's commitment to reward excellence and enhance performance in education, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Ronke Soyombo has doled a cash gift to 60 Public Primary schools pupils that participated in the project competition.


Dr. Soyombo made this known at the grand finale of the 1st edition of Literacy, Numeracy, and project exhibition competition tagged: 'Young Luminaries' held at Oba Erinwole road, Sagamu organised for public primary schools in the council Education Authority, saying that the event was not only a moment of pride for learners but also for head teachers and teachers and everyone who have played a vital role in making it a success.


The Special Adviser congratulated the initiator and Executive Secretary, Sagamu Local Government Education Authority, Apostle Kola Okubote, for their efforts towards improving the education sector, saying such giant stride would mark a significant milestone in the lives of the learners as they would showcase their talents in the project exhibition which included traffic light, water dispenser, standing fan, tables and chairs amongst others.


“If the students can understand numeracy and literacy, it would help them to navigate through other subjects while the project exhibition would assist in displaying their talents and drive industrial growth and economic development,” she said.


She encouraged teachers as the bible of the nation to continue to be good examples the students should emulate, thanking them for caring for the future leaders.


In opening remarks, the Acting Chairman of, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Lawal Mikahi, appreciated Prince Dapo Abiodun for improving the education sector, calling on parents, philanthropists, and communities to compliment the government’s efforts at ensuring qualitative education.


In his welcome address, the Education Secretary, of Sagamu Local Government Education Authority, Apostle Kola Okubote explained that the competition which started some weeks ago among the 60 elementary schools in Sagamu LGEA was aimed at developing the communication and reading ability of students as well as helping them to develop an interest in mathematics which was very essential in daily activities while project exhibition would help to encourage creativity leading to entrepreneurship to make them independent and become employers of labour.


In his goodwill message, the royal father of the day, the Radanuwa of Idado, HRH, Oba Musiliu Soile, thanked the organizers for putting in place such a laudable programme and worthy of emulation, promising his unhindered support for more  programmes that would further enhance the education sector.


The outcome of the competition had Local Government Primary School, Makun coming 1st with 5 gold medals, St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Simawa coming 2nd with 2 gold medals while A.U.D Primary School, Imushin, Ogijo, and St. John Primary School 1, Ogijo came 3rd with 1 gold medal each.
