EXPOSE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PERPETRATORS-OGUN DEP. GOV. TASK JOURNALISTS
Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has tasked Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Information Chapel to help use their profession to expose, name and shame domestic violence perpetrators in the society without compromise in their reportage, describing it as a blight that must be collectively nip in the bud.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele made this known at the Year 2025 ramadan lecture titled: ‘Domestic violence, growing global concern, Islamic panacea to the rescue' organised by Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Information Chapel, at the mini Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the issue of domestic violence touches everybody, either as a witness, a victim or as a perpetrator of domestic violence.
“Allah forbade domestic violence and He has said that if we abhor something, we can change it with our hands, mouth and minds, where we are in domestic violence should be beyond changing with our minds but working against it.
As a professional, you should help highlight this challenge and also help to make it something that people will be ashamed of, Lets blacklist all perpetrators and ensure that we name and shame them. Anybody who does it should not be speared at all but exposed,” she said.
While commending NUJ Information chapel for their efforts in organising Ramadam lecture every year and the support of chapel members towards ensuring that the programme was a success, she thanked the guest lecturer for preaching the word of Allah and sharing the gift Allah has given him, praying that God would reward him, increase his knowledge and protect him in all his endeavours.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and the National President, ACCOMORAN, Alhaji Samsideen Apelogun, appreciated Almighty Allah for witnessing yet another Ramadam, saying the topic of this year Ramadan lecture was apt as domestic violence had caused a lot of damage to many homes, women and the children. While saying the cases of violence in Nigeria was alarming, adding that all hands must be on deck to nip it in the mud.
In his lecture, the Chief Imam, Lagos State House of Assembly. Dr. Abdul Hakeem, Abdul Lateef, said those who engage in domestic violence feel they know it all or have all it takes but lack everything, highlighting the types of violence as
physical, psychological, sexual, self-induced violence among others.
He attributed the causes of domestic violence to failure of making perpetrators to suffer for his or her crime, effect of childhood trauma, victims of broken home, peer groups, families, anger issues, false marriages (matchmaking), mental illness and religious differences.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, Comrade Femi Osipitan, said the chapel was not only concerned about the welfare of its members but also take their spiritual wellbeing very seriously, urging them to show love to one another, be philanthropic in nature, peace and follow the deeds of Allah wholeheartedly during and after Ramadan.

OGSG COMMENDS SFH ON FAMILY PLANNING DATA MANAGEMENT
The Ogun State Government has lauded the Society for Family Health (SFH) for its outstanding support in strengthening family planning data collection and its management in the State.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, gave the commendation while receiving the data tools on behalf of the State Government, acknowledging the significant role SFH played in enhancing the State's family planning services.
She acknowledged SFH's technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives, which have significantly improved the State's family planning data collection and analysis, saying the collaborative efforts have enabled government to make informed decisions and implement evidence-based family planning programmes.
Dr. Coker noted that, with the new data tools in place, the State Government was poised to make significant strides in improving family planning services, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for its citizens, saying it would enhance the State's ability to collect, analyse, and utilise data to inform family planning policies and programmes.
Reacting, Society for Family Health Team Lead, Mrs. Omolara Adeyemo, appreciated the State Government's efforts in creating a healthier environment for its citizens, emphasising the importance of accurate data collection and management in providing quality family planning services.
She emphasised that SFH had been working closely with the State Government to improve Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) outcomes, saying SFH collaborated with the State to train 400 family planning service providers, renovation of 200 health facilities, and training on data quality for Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, as well as deployment of 60 generation agents to create awareness and conduct community outreach.
Some of the data support tools provided includes, Family Planning Client Cards, Daily Consumption Registers, Stock Cards, Family Planning Registers, Monthly Summary Forms, and Requisition, Issue, and Report Forms for SDP.

OGUN SHUTS DOWN TWO INDUSTRIES OVER INDUSTRIAL HAZARDS
Ogun State government has shut down two industries, Quantum Steel Industry in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government and Xinfeng Plastics Limited along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for Industrial accidents that resulted in fatalities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), who doubled as the Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Alhaji Farouk Akintunde pointed out that the government took the decision to shut down the companies in order to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incidents and proffer solutions to avert future occurrences.
"As a government, we are determined to conduct credible and diligent investigations, including inviting external safety experts to get to the root cause of these incidents in the overriding public interest and safety".
"What is even painful is that despite State government's regular visits to these companies to educate them on the need to adhere strictly to safety procedures, such incidents still occurred within their production lines that resulted in fatalities, so the need to close them down," he said.
Akintunde added that, the two companies would remain shut till investigations were concluded and new safety protocols entrenched, while warning other companies in the State to prioritise the safety their workers, as the State government would not only close down any erring company, but would also blacklist them.
In a related development, the State Government had equally closed down two other companies, Wemco Nigeria Limited at Magboro along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was found guilty of obstructing State officials from performing their official assignment of investigating an erosion dispute between them and their immediate community. While Beautiful Fibre at Ogere also along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was found guilty of exposing its workers to hazardous chemicals by not providing them with Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE) despite several warnings by State government officials during routine visits to the companies.
The two companies were to remain shut until they comply with government directives.

OGSG THUMBS UP NECO FOR INTRODUCING CBE
Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has commended National Examinations Council (NECO) for introducing Computer Based Examination (CBE).
Prof. Arigbabu made this commendation while playing host to the State Coordinator of NECO, Mrs. Bukola Alloh and her team to his office in Abeokuta, saying it was a laudable development that would enhance the credibility of the examinations and viability of NECO certificate.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, NECO, Mrs. Alloh said the Federal Ministry of Education has adopted and directed that CBE should be test run on five subjects including English, Mathematics, Civic Education, one Entrepreneur and one Science subject in the forthcoming examinations, seeking synergy with school principals for the conducting a hitch free exercise.

PROMOTE YOUTHFUL PARCIPATION IN PEACE, MUTUAL RESPECT FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – ABIODUN
The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment towards actively participating in the initiatives that, would promote peace, development and mutual respect within local communities, to honour the vision of the founding fathers of the National Youth Service Corps and the National Sports Festival.
Governor, Dapo Abiodun, disclosed this at A Day workshop organised by the NYSC South West Area II, with the theme, “Five Decades of Community Development Service: Building Partnerships for Effective Youth Participation”, at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto Abeokuta, saying it was essential to recognise that youth participation was cornerstone of a sustainable community development.
Represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, Gov. Abiodun submitted that the 2024 National Sports Festival underscores the State Government’s commitment to youth engagement and reinforces the role of sports in fostering unity and peace in the country.
The State helmsman revealed that his administration had implemented various empowerment initiatives and programmes aimed at equipping the youth with the necessary skills and opportunities to thrive, saying such programmes that focused on vocational training, mentorship, and entrepreneurship have been instrumental in preparing young people to meet the challenges of the future with confidence and capability.
He stated that collaboration between relevant stakeholders must remain a priority, pointing out that, strengthening partnerships between the Ogun State Government, the NYSC, and other key stakeholders were crucial to enhancing the impact of local community development projects.
“I advocate for increased engagement with the private sector, as these partnerships can expand the scope of youth empowerment initiatives and create new opportunities for Corps members, to the organisers of the NYSC, I appreciate their unwavering commitment to fostering community development. Your efforts in engaging our youth are instrumental in shaping a progressive society,” he said.
Speaking, the Director, NYSC South West Area Office II, Mrs. Olaleye Francisca revealed that, the Community Development service was one of the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC, where Corps members, through their ingenuity and resourcefulness contribute positively to the development of their host communities.
While tasking zonal and Local Government inspectors to call back the past glorious days of the CDS programmes, which had recorded many success, she added that, CDS could only be delivered efficiently and effectively on its core mandate and within the matrix of its expanding collaborative responsibilities, with the active support and involvement of all stakeholders.

MUSLIMS URGE TO GUIDE AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Muslim faithful’s in the State have been charged to guide against any form of domestic violence, name and shame perpetrators and embrace peace.
The Guest Lecturer and Chief Imam of Lagos Central Mosque, Dr. Abdul Akeem Abdul Lateef, gave the charge at the Year 2025 Ramadan Lecture with the theme: ‘Domestic Violence: A Growing Global Concern, Islamic Panacea to The Rescue’ organised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, at the Mini Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying domestic violence is a menace that affects individual, family and society.
Dr. Abdul Akeem categorised domestic violence into physical, emotional and psychological trauma among others, saying the major cause was the fact that those guilty of an offence failed to suffer for their crimes, which occur everywhere on daily basis.
He said effect of childhood trauma, victims of broken homes, peer pressure, and mental illness were part of reasons that could lead to domestic violence, advising that, people should seek answer when in doubt, avoid jealousy or envy and use the knowledge bestowed on them to search for paradise and not to destroy.
Dr. Abdul Akeem, highlighted some categories of professions that could curb domestic violence in the society, which were Judges, Journalists, Lawyers, Police, among others while making references to Q4, verse 105-112 and Q4 verse 135.
Speaking, Deputy Governor of the State, Engr. Salako-Oyedele, commended Nigerian Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Information Chapel for their yearly efforts in organising Ramadam lecture and the support of chapel members towards ensuring the success of the programme, while appreciating the guest lecturer for sharing the gift Allah has given him and prayed that God reward, increase his knowledge and protect him in all his endeavors.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele noted that, gender-based violence perpetrators should be exposed and dealt with accordingly, irrespective of their status admonishing journalists to work with evidence as part of efforts to eradicate the violence.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and the National President, ACCOMORAN, Alhaji Samsideen Apelogun, said Ramadan was a month of divine blessing and spiritual renewal, noting that cases of domestic violence had been on the increase, while commending the State Government for its efforts towards curbing it.
Appreciating, Chairman of the NUJ Ramadan Planning Committee, Mr. Surajudeen Popoola, thanked the Almighty Allah and everyone for their presence and cooperation, noting that the programme was a remarkable achievement that would last long.
