FOSTER UNITY, PROGRESS IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES - ABIODUN CHARGES CORPS MEMBERS
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has charged new Corps members t towards promoting the needed peaceful co-existence that will engender socio-economic development of their host communities and the state at large.
The Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who stated this while delivering his address at the Swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C, Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps, at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, urged them to demonstrate loyalty, dedication, discipline and patriotism in their daily activities.
Represented by Commissioner of Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, Governor Abiodun, revealed that the State is a leader in youth development initiatives, focusing on job creation, poverty alleviation and food security.
He explained that his administration has implemented various initiatives, including vocational training, entrepreneurship development programmes, scholarships, mentorship programmes, sports and recreational activities, saying these initiatives were aimed at creating a generation of resourceful and self-reliant young people.
"As an administration, we recognise the invaluable role of youth as the driving force behind economic, social and political transformation. Our commitment to youth empowerment is reflected in the numerous programmes designed to equip young people with skills, knowledge and opportunities," Gov. Abiodun said.
Gov. Abiodun said that the programme would equip corps members with practical, social and leadership skills essential for moving the country forward, enjoining them to embrace the rigours of the orientation programme,.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu maintained that the 3-weeks orientation exercise was structured and regimented and designed to instill in the corps members with mindset of discipline and sense of self-reliance that would enable confront challenges ahead during and after the service year.
She advised them to identify the social needs of their host communities during their period of service and work towards addressing them, encouraging them to learn at least two skills for self-reliance and self-sustenance towards becoming an employer of labour, as white-collar jobs could not access easily.
A total of 2, 665 young graduates were registered, comprising 1, 106 males and 1, 559 females.

OGUN ASSEMBLY PASSES RESOLUTION SEEKING TAKE-OFF OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES AT STATE POLYTECHNIC, IPOKIA
Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to consider expediting actions through the allocation of necessary funds for the rehabilitation and operational take-off of the State Polytechnic situated at Ipokia, so as to ensure the completion of all existing facilities by government and accreditation of academic programmes of the institution by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the immediate commencement of academic activities.
The passage of the resolution titled, “H.R. No. 124/OG/2024-Urgent Call on the State Government to consider the immediate revival and operational take-off of the State Polytechnic, Ipokia”, followed an extensive debate by the State lawmakers and subsequent adoption of the resolution by the Sponsor and member representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency, Hon. Adebisi Oyedele, seconded by Hon Damilare Bello and supported by other lawmakers at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide.
Earlier while opening debate on the motion, Oyedele, recalled that the polytechnic, was established through a law passed by the State Legislature as part of a strategic educational reform initiative of the State Government.
He sought the need for government to utilise the existing infrastructure on the site including physical infrastructure like lecture halls, laboratories, administrative buildings and student hostels for the commencement of academic activities in the institution.
Oyedele further advocated for strategic engagement with international educational bodies and border-town stakeholders to promote the Polytechnic, as an academic hub, thereby attracting local and international students, with recommendations for the integration of community stakeholders, including traditional rulers in the institution’s revival process to ensure local ownership and sustainability.
Other lawmakers including, Honourables Wahab Haruna, Waliu Owode, Adeyanju Adegoke, Damilare Bello, Babatunde Tella, Musefiu Lamidi and Lukman Adeleye, also spoke in favour of the motion, recalling the coordinated efforts of stakeholders during the conceptual stage of the Polytechnic, calling on the present administration to expedite action, towards ensuring the commencement of activities in the Polytechnic.
The commencement of academic activities in the institution, they noted would in turn spur economic activities with academic opportunities for the youth in the border communities.
The lawmakers sought the need for more developmental project around the new polytechnic, which would in turn create business and investment opportunities for the people, thereby contributing to human capital development and encouraging the teeming youth to venture into lawful business.
It was recall that a committee set up by Governor Dapo Abiodun, in September 2019 to look into the matter which was headed by Prof. Awonusi and the Secretary of the Committee was Dr. Waheed Olanloye, urging the government to immediately set machineries in motion to allow the school begin operation in line with the qualitative education policy of government in the State.
Responding, the Speaker called on present government to expedite action on the commencement of academic programmes at the polytechnic, directing the House Committee on Legislative Compliance to liaise with the appropriate MDAs to provide more details on all ongoing projects across the State.

14TH GATEWAY TRADE FAIR: SOFELA CHARGES OGUNCCIMA TO IMPROVE ON FAIR
Ahead of the 14th Gateway International Trade Fair scheduled for February 7th to 17th, 2025 at the M.K.O Abiola Trade Fair Complex Abeokuta, the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA), has been charged to fully assume leadership role for the exhibition, mobilise corporate organisations and work towards improving on past achievements.
Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, gave the charge during the Press Conference held in Abeokuta to herald this year’s edition which is themed, “Promoting Business through Partnership” assuring that the State government would not renege in providing enabling environment for the continuous success of the Trade Fair.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, Sofela who listed past support of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to include, the enhancement of the M.K.O Abiola Trade Fair Complex, provision of other critical infrastructure like perimeter fencing, a transformer, consistent financial support among others which had aided the continuous improvement of the event, assured that the Ministry would not abandon the Chambers.
“As the organisers of this prestigious fair, I encourage OGUNCCIMA to fully assume her leadership role in ensuring the success of this event. The Gateway International Trade Fair is your fountain, your legacy and your responsibility to uphold. While the government has been instrumental in demonstrating effective strategies in past editions, it is important to reiterate that our primary role is to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
“In alignment with our promise, the Ministry has already taken proactive steps in response to your requests, we have reached out to relevant stakeholders. If there are additional assistance required, please do not hesitate to engage us,’’ Sofela said.
The Commissioner who commended the OGUNCCIMA for its unwavering commitment to promoting trade, investment and industrialisation through the Fair urged the Chambers to leverage the industrial hub status of the State by attracting diverse participation from the abundant pool of industries operating in the Gateway State including members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).
In his address, the President OGUNCCIMA, Lion Niyi Osiyemi, stated that all efforts were in top gear towards meeting set targets for the Trade Fair, assuring that this year’s event would be bigger and better than past editions.
Osiyemi disclosed that, the Chambers had embarked on familiarisation tours to create more awareness about the benefits of joining the Business membership Organisation, promising to intensify efforts on the area of familiarization with industries ahead of future editions of the Trade Fair.

OGUN RESTATES COMMITMENT TO EVEN DISTRIBUTION OF INFRASTRUCTURAL ACROSS COMMUNITIES
Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to upholding quality and even distribution of infrastructural development in communities across the state.
Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ademola Olasunkanmi Balogun made this known during onsite inspection of community development projects across the State, saying the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration would not relent in supporting Community Development Associations’ Self-help projects aimed at promoting standard of living and improving the wellbeing of residents.
Hon. Ademola said that, the over one Hundred (100) micro projects (MP), which cut across education, health and water resources were initiated and executed by the host Community Development Associations with the technical and financial support from the State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, under the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) programs, assuring that the state would not compromise on quality and standard.
"We are here to inspect finished projects, as well as ongoing ones, to ensure that Communities handling them are doing what they should do according to Ogun State and World bank standard because we have certain criteria which these projects must meet. Anything short of that would not be accepted by the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration," he said.
He disclosed that the projects included, rehabilitation of classrooms, rehabilitation of Primary Health Care centres with the supplies of essential medical items, provision of boreholes with electricity generating set and water storage tanks, provision of desks and chairs, laboratory equipment, as well as provision of solar inverters, rehabilitation and construction of toilet facilities among others, noting that they cut across the three senatorial districts of the State.
" I have visited not less than fourteen (14) local government areas across the State because these projects are being done in the three senatorial districts. Gov. Dapo Abiodun has promised even development of all communities, and my team and I are here to make sure of that," Hon. Ademola stated.
Also speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Kola Ogunlana, who said that the various constructions and rehabilitation were geared towards ensuring an improved standard of living for all residents, especially those in the local communities, noted that self-help is the best help as they are identified as the immediate need of residents, assuring that it would be a continuous one in all communities across the State.
In their various words of appreciation, the Matron, Odogbolu Primary Health Centre, Mrs. Esther Adekoya and the Chairman, Community Project Management Committee, Mr. Abdulsallam Ganiu, commended the State Government on its efforts at improving the lives of the residents, promising adequate maintenance of equipment and other facilities in their various communities.
The inspection team included Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Project State Care Coordinating Unit (SCUU), Hon. OGUN IS PROFITABLE, SAFE FOR INVESTORS -COMMISSIONER
Ogun State has been described as one of the safest and peaceful State in Nigeria with a robust business memorandum of understanding where investors can come into and thrive.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, disclosed this during a proposal presentation by members of LJ Entertainment team to the Ministry, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Hon. Fagbayi further said that, development of the over forty tourist sites across the State cannot be left to the government alone, reasons why majority of the sites were in Moribound State despite efforts being put in place by the present administration while commending the team for deeming it fit, to give back to the society by investing in the State.
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yusuff Quudus, added that the development and growth of any society cannot be handled singlehandedly by only the government, hence why well-meaning indigenes of the State should come in and contribute their quota as well as gain juicy returns on their investments.
In his presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of LJ Entertainment, Mr. Lekan Jimoh, emphasised the organisation's willingness to partner with the State government through the Ministry to create an inspiring hub that would tap into the State's extensive resources in arts, media, and entertainment, adding that this initiative would improve the State's visibility on a global scale, increase economic revenue, preserve cultural heritage, generate lasting transformative effects, and empower the youth in the State.
Speaking also during the visit, the CEO of Enish Restaurants and co-sponsor, Mr. Wale Chiyem, revealed that the collaboration aims to create a joint venture with the Ogun State Government, towards revitalising and modernising important tourist attractions, enhancing local economies and establishing the State as a premier tourist destination within Nigeria and across Africa.

OGUN TO DEAL WITH DEVELOPERS BREAKING GOVERNMENT SEAL
The Ogun State Government has promised to deal with the developers who break government seal on property, sealed by the enforcement team of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Acting General Manager of Ogun State Building Production Management Authority, Builder (Mrs.) Titilayo Oladogbon, stated this at Yewa South Local Government, Ilaro, where various offences ranging from development without Authorisation, construction without the use of registered professional on site, no project information board and breaking of Government seal on property.
She expressed dissatisfaction on the activities on some violators who instead of regularising and applying for appeal for unsealing of the sealed properties, go back to break government seal and continue with the development.
She stressed that, the authority had no other option but to engage the task force which includes arrest order to deter the violators from proceeding with the illegal development.
"According to the Ogun State Building Production Management Regulations (OGBPMR), 2022, breaking of Government seal is a very serious offence. Violators of the regulations are liable to payment fines according to the degree of contravention,’’ she added.
Oladogbon therefore advised the public to approach the Authority with a notice of Commencement of construction 7 days before commencement of any development in the State.
She maintained that the Authority would not relent in its effort in ensuring properly supervised, safe and resilient buildings for sustainable communities with quality construction and development in line with the OGBPMR, 2022.

OGIRS REAFFIRMS CONTINUOUS SYNERGY WITH E-THIRD PARTY INSURANCE CONSORTIUM
As part of efforts to ensure continuous ease of life and convenience for the citizenry, the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has promised continuous synergy with the E-Third Party Insurance Companies for efficient service delivery and optimal productivity.
This submission was brought to fore by the Executive Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, (OGIRS), Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, during a meeting with the representatives of E-Third Party Insurance, Brokers and Underwriters at OGIRS' Conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying gone are the days where there were large percentage of quacks in the insurance industry issuing the papers without paying claims but with the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the parties for over three years, the narrative has changed positively.
He said OGIRS had created strategic systems to block all loopholes in the issuance of the documents, encouraging taxpayers to embrace the scheme as this would bring confidence to the motorists whenever the unexpected happens
Mr. Olaleye advised the companies to brainstorm and choose the new leadership that would take over as the lead insurer since they are signing another contract, saying the chosen leadership should also come up with new initiatives that would move the state forward.
"OGIRS has created a platform to chase away clxandestine unregistered set of people under the tree issuing insurance papers, that is why government has brought the scheme that will be of benefit to taxpayers," he said.
In her remarks, Director, Other Taxes, Mrs. Oluyomi Dawodu further explained that it is expected of every car owner either private or commercial to obtain valid insurance documents, emphasising that OGIRS is the only agency saddled with the responsibility of issuing motor licences, Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC), among others.
She also stressed that the essence of the meeting with the companies was the renewal of another contract term with the OGIRS and for them to choose the leading insurer who would be relating with the agency in terms of official duties.
Responding, Coordinator, E- Third Party Insurance, SouthWest, Dr. Moses Akinyoola and Lead Broker, Mr. Abayomi Babalola respectively, informed that the era of misinformation about the scheme is over, advising car owners to visit any of the OGIRS' licencing offices to get their papers issued, in order to lay claims whenever the need arises.

LEGISLATORS COMMEND GOVERNOR ABIODUN ON DR. TAIWO'S APPOINTMENT
The Legislative Arm of Ipokia Local Government Area has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun, for elevating their son, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, as a substantive Chief of Staff.
The Legislators made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Office of the Chief of Staff, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Akeem Adeyanju, appreciating the governor for the elevation and restoring their confidence in the local government’s affairs in the state.
The Councillors described Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo's elevation as a significant morale booster for the people of Ipokia Local Government Area, using the occasion to appeal for additional government appointments and opportunities for their local government, comparing themselves to Oliver Twist, seeking more.
In his remarks, the Chief of Staff, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, urged the legislators to consistently conduct themselves with dignity and demonstrate a high level of competence in the discharge of their duty, calling on them to promote peaceful co -existence that would enhance the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
He further assured them that their requests would be communicated to the governor, while noting that similar appeals had been received from other parts of the state.

OGUN LG CHAIRMAN CHARGES NEW SECRETARY TO REMAIN COMMITTED
The newly appointed Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Mr. Mohammed Ogabi, has been charged to remain loyal, dedicated and work in tandem with executive towards achieving the developmental set goals.
The Chairman, Hon. Lawal Adewale, made the charge during the swearing - in ceremony of the new Secretary, held at the Council Secretariat, calling on him to place more emphasis on teamwork and accept his new job as a call to serve the people rather than seeing it an opportunity to amass wealth.
The Chairman appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for supporting the Council particularly for his outstanding role in the successful appointment of Mr. Ogabi as the Council's SLG.
Responding, Mr. Muhammed Ogabi, promised to be loyal and support the vision and aspirations of the Council, explaining that, he would uphold the good legacy laid down by his predecessors so as to take the Council to an enviable height.
In his remarks, the Head of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Junaid Wasiu, assured that the Council's workforce would not relent in the discharge of their duties, assuring that, they would work assiduously with the political functionaries towards improving the livelihood of the people in the area.

OGUN EDUCATION COMMISSIONER AWARDED FOR FIGHT AGAINST TRUANCY IN SCHOOLS
In recognition of its commitment towards the prevention of crime in schools across the State, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has been honoured with award of excellent achievement.
Speaking in Abeokuta during the presentation of the award, the Commandant, National School Crime Prevention Corps, NSCPC, Commandant Folayinka Ige, appreciated the Commissioner for providing logistics such as cash, access to learners, fueling of operative vehicles, among others to ensure the success of the activities of the corps.
Commandant Ige lauded the passion of Prof. Arigbabu in school crime prevention which had helped in curbing many social vices within and outside school premises such as rape, truancy, cultism, bullying, among others.
Ige noted that, the corps was established to prevent and control crimes, highlighting other activities to include; career talks, seminar, counseling and rehabilitation of erring learners, appreciating the government through the Ministry of Education for giving them permission to carry out their operations successfully.
Responding, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Arigbabu, acknowledged the immense support of the security outfit, towards engaging learners in tips needed for peaceful co-existence and for restoring calm within the academic environments.
The Commissioner lauded Safe the Future Generation Initiative, the international partner of NSCPC, represented by the General Secretary, Prince Charles Abidemi, for rendering a helping hand to reposition the lives of learners by taming them in the right direction.
In the same vain, the Old Students Association of the Ogun State Government Science and Technical College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, led by the President, Comrade Iyabode Adeola paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu to appreciate the massive infrastructural renovation going on around the school.
The Commissioner also received the Management Staff of the McPherson University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan in his office promised government continuous support in providing policies that would enable private institutions in the State to thrive.
