Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has implored traditional rulers across the state to continue to use their vantage position to contribute to the socio-economic development of the State.


Governor Abiodun stated this during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas at Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the Council was better positioned to engender unity, peace, and harmony of the traditional institution in the state, as well as the development of its cultural heritage.


Represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the governor admonished traditional rulers to leverage on the council meeting to interact and cross-fertilise ideas necessary to create prosperity for the people.


He enjoined them to come up with practicable and more improved recommendations to discharge good governance in the state.


In his remarks, the Chairman of the Council, Olu, and the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba. Kehinde Olugbenle, who appreciated Governor Abiodun for his unflinching efforts in addressing the welfare of the traditional council and fulfilling the promise of the first tranche of utility vehicles, just as he requested that the government should make provision for the remaining, appealing for the ratification of the newly processed list of Obas for status upgrade.


Highlights of the meeting were the presentation of the Digiculture project by the Associate Professor of International Peace and Security, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNNAB), Dr. Temitope Olaifa, who sensitized the traditional rulers on the importance of Agriculture.


She underscored the need to prevent the state’s cultural heritage from going into extinction, revealing that the team was set to develop an Application that would assist in interpreting and exploring culture, soliciting the traditional rulers' support and cooperation to sustain the cultures in their various domains.


In his presentation, the new Commandant of Ogun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Brigader-General, Alade Adedigba (Rtd), lauded the traditional rulers for their efforts at ensuring peace in their domains, calling for their cooperation to have a grassroots-driven security, saying the Governor’s initiative for security was to ensure all citizens were safe.
