GOV. ABIODUN CALLS FOR SYNERGY BETWEEN NIS, OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES IN OGUN
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on all security agencies in the state to join hands with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in ensuring adequate protection of lives and property of the citizenry.
Prince Abiodun made the call on Tuesday while receiving in audience, the new Comptroller, NIS, Ogun State command, Comptroller Grace Adeoye.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele noted that the NIS, as the gatekeepers of the nation's borders, preventing the inflow of dangerous weapons, among others, would need the support of other sister security agencies to succeed in its avowed constitutional responsibilities.
Abiodun noted that it was imperative to ensure peaceful co-existence with the NIS, considering Ogun State as the gateway to Nigeria from the west, with its borders with the neighbouring Republic of Benin.
He pledged the continued support of his administration for the constitutional duties of the NIS in the State.
Abiodun, while appreciating the outgoing Comptroller, Mrs Olufunmilayo Bosede for her good work in the state, charged the new NIS boss to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor, assuring her of the same cooperation.
Speaking earlier, Mrs Grace Adeoye appreciated the state government for the warm welcome, even as she promised to ensure that the operations of the NIS were topnotch in the state during her tenure.
She called for support from the state government and other security agencies in the state, as accorded to her predecessor.
While giving accounts of her stewardship, the outgoing Comptroller appreciated the support of the state government and heads of other security agencies during her tenure in the State and recalled that immediately on her assumption of office, three repatriations were made, all the backlogs of passports cleared, with records of great improvement in border security to reduce transborder crimes.
She appealed that more attention should be given to border security, including the introduction of e-border solutions, with the utilisation of technology to solve border problems, while officers are being motivated to eschew corruption.

OGUN WARNS ILLEGAL MINERS, VOWS STIFF SANCTIONS
Ogun State government has issued a note of warning to illegal miners and dredgers operating within its domain to desist, as necessary legal actions and stiff sanctions would be taken against any lawbreaker.
Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, gave the warning at a stakeholders’ meeting with miners and dredgers, at the Ministry's Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Mr. Sofela, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, described the mining sector as important across the globe, due to its revenue and employment generation advantage.
The Commissioner affirmed the need for responsible mining and dredging, saying the activities of illegal miners had negative impacts on the community and state’s infrastructure, which he said could be destructive and disruptive.
He noted that some miners and dredgers had been operating with expired documents, stating that papers of various operators must be duly screened, while new clearance should be obtained before returning to site.
"Mining is a win-win thing if done responsibly but destructive and disruptive when it is irresponsibly carried out given the monumental financial effects it has on government and community at large. We have a collective responsibility to protect our environment and see that things are done accordingly.
"The note of warning I am giving today is an indication that it is not going to be business as usual going forward. If you are arrested for illegal mining and dredging, you will be made to face the full wrath of the law", he said.
Sofela recalled the suspension of mining and dredging activities by the Ministry across the state since March 28, 2024, to allow for a proper review and upgrade of operational guidelines in line with the policies of the present administration.
Speaking on the new payment template, the Commissioner enjoined them to key into it for a seamless transaction, and be alive to their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Responding on behalf of the miners and dredgers, Mr. Ebenezer Aina, commended government for its efforts at ensuring standards in the sector’s operations.

LAST BATCH OF OGUN PILGRIMS RETURN TO NIGERIA
The last batch of Ogun State pilgrims, comprising 36 have returned safely to Nigeria from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after completing necessary hajj rites.
The pilgrims, which include the state Muslim Pilgrims Board officials, landed safely at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at exactly 10 pm on Monday, July 1, 2024.
It would be recalled that the first, second, and third batches, totalling 891 pilgrims, had already returned safely in the previous week, bringing the total to 934.
Speaking with newsmen on arrival, the Board Chairman, Imam Hussein Kehinde, who appreciated Allah for making the hajj exercise seamless, lauded the state government for the adequate welfare of the pilgrims. He advised the pilgrims to keep up the good lessons learned during the pilgrimage.
Corroborating the Chairman, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Salau Dauda, acknowledged the unwavering support of Governor Dapo Abiodun for Hajj operations, appreciating the pilgrims for being good ambassadors during their stay in the holy land of Makkah and Medina.

OGSG EXTENDS SALE OF SUBSIDISED RICE TO LG RETIREES
Committed to the welfare of senior citizens, Ogun State government has extended the sale of subsidised rice to retired Local Government staff and Primary School teachers, to mitigate the current economic hardship being experienced in the country.
Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale made this known in Abeokuta, stating that government was passionate about the well-being of retirees who had served the state diligently.
"The sale of subsidised rice to our senior citizens is the demonstration of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s willingness to ensure that they benefit from the impactful initiatives of government’’, he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN) Ogun State chapter, Pastor Benedict Ademoye, appreciated Governor Abiodun for considering the retirees in the sale of subsidised rice, urging him not to relent in his good work, commending the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau for ensuring smooth purchase of the rice.

OGSG CHARGES ALTERNATE MEDICINE PRACTITIONERS ON ETHICAL GUIDELINES
Alternate Medicine practitioners in Ogun state have been charged to uphold basic ethical guidelines, to streamline and standardise the practice.
The Executive Secretary/ Registrar of the state Alternate Medicine Board, Dr. Kafayat Lawal gave the charge during the graduation ceremony of Batch 19, African College of Traditional Medicine, at the College Auditorium Hall, Elekuro, Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
Dr. Lawal, represented by the Director, Administration and Supplies, Mrs. Omotunde Olasinyan , said certified professionals in the field were expected to know the rudiments and limitations of the job to prevent complications. -
She stated that the Board embarked on the registration and training of practitioners, to acquaint them with operational laws of the state among others, advising the graduands to work within their scope of operation, as the present administration was cognisance of the roles and responsibilities of every area of its health system.
Speaking, the Legal Adviser of the College, Barr. Thomas Akintubuwa, congratulated the graduands, enjoining them to be good ambassador of the school.
Earlier, Proprietor, African College of Traditional Medicine, Chief Samson Soyoye, said creation of OGAMB by the state government was a platform to develop practitioners in the field of traditional medicine, appreciating the present administration for creating the Board, and pledged support of the college at all times.
Responding on behalf of other graduands, Mr. Amao Abdullah and Mrs. Odeyemi Titilayo, promised to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

WHY WE ARE TRANSFORMING OUR TECHNICAL EDUCATION - OGSG
Ogun State government says the ongoing transformation in the Vocational and Technical Sector is to enhance employability and drive economic growth in the state and country.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said this during a five-day workshop at Simeon Adebo Library, Kuto, Abeokuta, organised by the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), to review and validate the National Technical Certificate (NTC) curriculum and National Occupation Standard (NOS) for the newly introduced trades.
Arigbabu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Mariam Oloko, noted that the present administration had embarked on innovative capacity building for Technical Instructors and Teachers, while rehabilitation of technical and vocational schools across the state was in the pipeline.
Speaking further, the Commissioner said the present administration’s quest to transform the technical sector for the next generation of workers with skills to thrive in the highly competitive world, adding that the introduction of new trades in technical school curriculum would ensure economic growth, and equip students with cutting-edge skills
In his remarks, the Acting Education Secretary, OGSTVEB, Mr. Olubori Akinleye applauded the resource persons for their inputs in the review of the curriculum, saying the contributions by different experts and professional education bodies, would enable students to gain valuable skills, creativity and practical experience, to prepare them adequately for the industrial world.
In his comment, a member of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr. John Onyebuchi, lauded the dedication of the resource experts, noting that their outstanding contributions in reviewing the curriculum were impressive.
Responding, TVET Specialist Consultant, Ogun State Economic Transformation Project, Mr. Unyime Eyo, said introduction of the new trades demonstrates the state government's commitment to providing quality technical education that would prepare students ahead.
On his part, Chairman, Nigerian Association of Small, and Medium Enterprises (NASME), Ogun State Chapter, Dr. Akinwumi Alonge, emphasised the value of various trades in preparing students for industrial growth, while highlighting the significance of building ornamental craft in construction industry, while a Lecturer in the Department of Plant Physiology and Crop Production Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr. Sobowale Soremi pointed out that Agronomy Craft was important to sustainable agriculture and food security.
