MRS. ABIODUN PARTNERS US-BASED DOCTORS ON MEDICAL OUTREACH

Over 500 indigent citizens of Ogun State have benefitted from the yearly free medical outreach strategically coordinated by the Pet Project of the First Lady of Ogun State, Ajose Foundation, in collaboration with some US-based medical specialists, at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu and Ayepe Ijebu Central Mosque.

Speaking during the event, Wife of the state Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, said the medical intervention was to give succour to those who had been scheduled for surgeries but could not afford bills for medical procedures and medications.

She reiterated her unwavering commitment with the support of state indigene doctors from the United States to sustain the outreach, saying it was a way of giving back to the society.

On his part, the team lead, Dr. Musbau Kasumu, an indigene of Ijebu Ayepe, said his family was inspired to support government in assisting the less- privileged because of their humble background, disclosing that the team, comprising various medical specialists including, Anesthetists, Surgeons, Generalists, Dentists, Acupuncturist, Opthalmologists, Gynaecologists and Obstetrics, among others, carried out medical supports during the seven-days mission from 7. 00 am to 7. 00pm.

He said the mission continues to expand with doctors drawn from foreign countries like Ukraine, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, among others for this year's intervention.

In her remarks, one of the team members, Head Anaesthetist, Dr. Bimpe Adenusi, appreciated staffers of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Bunmi Fatungase, for their cooperation.

She revealed that medical tests which include, eye, diabetes, malaria and screening for different diseases, as well as treatments, were also ongoing at Aiyepe Central Mosque for people in the community and environ, acknowledging the support and commitment of Mrs. Abiodun in purchasing several equipment, among other incentives, towards having a hitch-free medical outreach.

 While appreciating Mrs. Abiodun and the medical team for the free surgery and medications, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Kate Ikepe, who had undergone a successful fibroid procedure, said a private hospital had billed her over N500,000 for the surgery, which she could not afford.

MRS. ABIODUN LEADS WALK AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

Towards efforts to continue fight against drug abuse and trafficking, Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, who doubles as the Chairperson of the Ogun State Drug Control Committee and the Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse, led an Advocacy Walk in Abeokuta, the state Capital, in commemoration of the 2024 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.

Mrs. Abiodun lamented the alarming rate of prevalence of drug abuse and drug related vices, especially among youths, saying the ugly trend needed urgent intervention of all and sundry at nipping it in the bud, in order to avert grave consequences.

She underscored the need for massive advocacy and education, as well as enforcement to address the scourge, which according to her, had negatively impacted on the state more than other 35 states of the Federation, due to the state's proximity to borders.

Wife of the Governor said prevention should be paramount in combating drug abuse as a means of forestalling serious consequences in homes and the larger society, calling on all stakeholders, including religious leaders, to complement efforts at creating awareness on the dangers inherent in drugs abuse and trafficking.

She promised her continued support and collaboration with the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), calling on the Legislature to also support ongoing efforts by enacting enabling laws for enforcement.

Corroborating Mrs. Abiodun's opinion of prevention, Commander, NDLEA, Ogun State Command, Mr. Tijani Rabbe, noted that the fight was a collective responsibility of all stakeholders, particularly parents.

The walk which took-off from the state headquarters of the NDLEA, in Ibara through Omida Market to Panseke, was joined by some state government functionaries, members of Spouses of Ogun State Functionaries Association (SOSGFA), corps members and other law enforcement agencies.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR BUSINESS GROWTH, OGUN COMMISSIONER TASKS MSME OPERATORS

Operators of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), have been charged to leverage on various initiatives of the present administration in Ogun State, geared towards boosting their businesses.

Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, gave the charge during the hybrid stakeholders’ engagement meeting with MSME operators, as well as Business Membership Organisations (BMOs), at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta and on digital platform.

Mr. Sofela stressed that strategic reforms and initiatives were structured to reduce the cost and time to complete business processes, improve business-enabling environment and increase private sector investments, adding that the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration introduced incentives, streamlined business registration processes through automation.

He pointed out that government was promoting digital literacy and adoption of e-commerce platforms among entrepreneurs through partnership with technological companies to provide affordable digital tools and learning, to ensure the MSMEs operators in the state were not left behind.

The Commissioner explained that initiatives were structured to reduce the cost and time to complete business processes, mentioning that significant investments had been made in developing industrial parks and business hub and economic zones, just as Small Scale Industries Land Acquisition Schemes (SILAS) in Ijebu Isiwo, was established to serve as a catalyst for business growth.

"We have introduced various funding windows like the Ogun SME Financial Empowerment Scheme, to address the prevailing challenges confronting enterpreneurs and lack of access to finance, as well as high cost associated with business operations.

"We are committed to building the capacity of our MSMEs, having realised the need for enhanced skills and knowledge in business management, financial planning and marketing among our MSMEs", he said.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, appreciated stakeholders for their collaboration, soliciting their cooperation towards achieving more.

"The Prince Abiodun-led government has many lofty initiatives in the offing and you are expected to key into them any time we call on you", he said.

In his remarks, the National President, Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON), Dr. Femi Egbesola, who described Sofela as an SME-friendly Commissioner, assured the government of the support of small business owners in the state.

The meeting had in attendance, representatives of German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON), Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Ogun State Signage Agency (OGSAA), Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Association of Nigerian Women in Business Network (ANWBN).

Others were, Cobblers and Leather Artisans Association of Nigeria, Association of Skill and Vocational Artisans Association of Nigeria (ASVAN), Ogun State Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA), among others.

OGSG WARNS AGAINST ENCROACHMENT ON GOVT. LAND

Ogun State government has warned the public to desist from selling and buying of government’s assets in the state to individuals or corporate bodies.

This was made known during a monitoring exercise at Sabo, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state, by the taskforce team of the Bureau of Lands and Survey, led by Esv. Fatai Adeboyejo.

 Esv. Adeboyejo, decried the nefarious activities of encroachers, who were taking over some landed property acquired some years ago by government for public use, stressed that prospective land buyers should visit the office of the Director-General, Bureau of Lands and Survey at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, for enquiries and professional advice before purchase.

Also speaking, the Acting Surveyor-General in the Bureau. Surv. Oladele Ewulo, advised the public to always approach relevant government agencies for professional advice before committing their resources into illegal purchase of government land.

He added that the taskforce was set up to checkmate the unwholesome activities of land grabbers, saying proper documentation was germane in land purchase.
