OGUN REITERATES COMMITMENT TO INNOVATION, EXCELLENCE

Ogun State Government has disclosed its commitment at creating an enabling environment that will foster partnerships, encourage knowledge sharing, innovation and pursuit of excellence.


The Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, stated this at the Investiture of Alhaji Atinuke Ebun, as the 11th Chairman of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Ogun State Chapter, stating that the state is renowned for robust partnerships and synergy with strategic partners, informing the body to organise management and leadership training for the public service management staff, in a bid to further enhance service delivery and professionalism.

He reiterated that Governor Dapo Abiodun acknowledged the vital roles professional bodies play in the development of the state, urging the association to sustain its support in the developmental agenda of the state, which is anchored on key pillars of ‘ISEYA’ by providing expert advice, conducting research and offering practical solutions to challenges.

In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Ebun appreciated the state government for supporting the association, promising that his tenure would put the welfare of members on the front burner by organising retreats for chairmen and secretaries of affiliate bodies, roundtable sessions with political office holders and advocacy visits to government officials, stakeholders and media partners, among others.

Earlier, the immediate past chairman of the association, Pastor (Mrs.) Gladys Odugbemi, commended Prince Dapo Abiodun for his leadership role in ensuring that his cabinet members were seasoned professionals, thereby making his administration distinct from others, imploring them to extend hand of fellowship to the new executives for the success of the association.

OGUN INAUGURATES COMMITTEE FOR GATEWAY GAMES

Ogun State government has inaugurated a 29-man committee of Team Ogun, for the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged, “Gateway Games 2024”, which would come up between Sunday, January 12, 2025 and Sunday, January 26, 2025.

 Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, made this known during the inauguration at the Sports Hall of the Alake Sports Complex, Ijeja, Abeokuta, noted that the Festival was one of the most important events in the national sporting calendar to foster unity among youths in Nigerian, regardless of ethnic, religion and political affiliations.

Hon. Isiaka disclosed that the hosting rights granted the state was through the efforts of the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to lay a solid foundation for sports development, and a veritable tool to engage as well as create a greater future for youths in the state, saying the state is not only hosting the Festival but equally participating as a team.  

 He expressed optimism that the festival would leave a legacy of capacity building, skills transfer, economic growth, sporting facilities and infrastructural development in the annals of the state, adding that it would serve as an affiliation of the limitless potential by revealing shared values of excellence, thoroughness, industriousness and hospitality of the state.

While assuring that the Governor would provide necessary infrastructure, facilities, accommodation for a befitting festival, informing that government would collaborate with relevant stakeholders, employ modern technologies, provide top-notch security, medical services for safety and wellbeing of all athletes, coaches and officials.

Hon. Isiaka stated that the Committee is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing a seamless, hitch-free festival for the 36 states of the federation and FCT and steer the affairs of the event, urging members to bring their wealth of experience cum expertise to bear, towards achieving a world-class festival, to the envy of all.

"The committee would work with me as Commissioner, to prepare and present a formidable team that is capable of representing the Gateway State in the various sports", he said.

The Committee comprises great sportsmen and women, sports administrators of high repute, media practitioners and technocrats, among whom were, Chief Falilat Ogunkoya, Prince Tunji Onatolu, Alh. Ganiu Majekodunmi, Mr. Adesola Faleti and Biodun Alabi, among others.

Responding on behalf of other committee members, Prince Tunji Onatolu, expressed appreciation to the state government for giving them the opportunity to serve, promising to assiduously work to ensure a hitch-free festival.

OIL DISCOVERY BENEFITS WILL BE ALL-ENCOMPASSING - OGSG

Ahead of the exploration to discover crude oil in Ogun State, the state government said the discovery of oil in commercial quantity within its territory would engender economic boost, ensure industrial growth and the overall well-being of residents.

Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, made this known while featuring on a television programme in Abeokuta, noting that the discovery of oil and gas would make the State become an oil-producing state, leading to influx of new investments through activities of stakeholders in the oil and gas value chain.

Addressing concerns about environmental degradation and protection of host communities as a result of the exploration, Mr. Sofela stated that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has provisions to protect the interest of host communities and protect the environment, assuring that both the federal and state government would ensure production of oil was in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner, who revealed that government had created conducive ambience for a successful exploratory exercise and subsequent oil production, stated that members of the host communities and all relevant stakeholders would be engaged before the exploration, adding that Governor Abiodun, as a vision-driven administrator, had also taken step to create a ministry that would manage the activities of stakeholders in the sector.

Speaking on the efforts to aid the growth of small businesses, the Commissioner stressed that the Abiodun-led administration is not just a government that focuses on the development of industries alone, but created an enabling environment for business entities to thrive, thereby witnessing an increased rate of industrial expansion, as more investors were establishing industries and expanding their facilities.  

He added that small businesses were being supported through different interventions including, National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Business Clinics, inauguration of the Ogun Fashion Hub and Modern Adire Shared Facility, in addition to Presidential Conditional Grant for Nano Businesses, Ogun Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (OG-CARES), other financial interventions and capacity building programmes.

Sofela disclosed that government would soon commence another batch of Presidential Conditional Grants for Nano businesses, saying the intervention is open to all qualified Nano business owners.

WE ‘LL CONTINUE TO PRIORITISE QUALITY PROJECTS, SAYS COMMISSIONER

The present administration in Ogun State is committed to prioritising projects that will enhance quality of life, create opportunities and ensure a brighter future for the citizenry.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, who reiterated this during the commissioning of the Ademola Awosanya Road in Makun, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state, said the vital role of infrastructural development in shaping life cannot be overstated and as such, government would continue to invest in innovative projects for socio-economic growth of the state.

He pointed out that the commissioned road would serve as an important link connecting different locations and drive economic growth, saying the project was geared towards alleviating various challenges being encountered by the people in the axis.

On his part, Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Jubril Odulate, noted that despite the paucity of funds and numerous challenges confronting the country, the local government had been able to execute various developmental projects, including the newly commissioned re-constructed road with heavy interlocking stones.

He urged residents to see the maintenance of the project as a collective responsibility by desisting from indiscriminate dumping of refuse clearing drainages, to allow free flow of water, especially during the rainy season, assuring that the present administration would not rest on its oars at providing social amenities to the populace.

In his remarks, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, represented by Asoju Akarigbo, Engr. Femi Oshasanwo, commended the Chairman for the lofty projects implemented so far, saying the deplorable condition of the road had caused adverse effects on the economic development of the area, thanking the government for putting smile on the faces of the people.

Oba Ajayi noted that the road would serve as an alternative route for motorists and pedestrians, as well as reduce traffic congestion on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, adding that the road would boost socio-economic development of the area.

The Monarch lauded the present administration for the infrastructural development initiative, calling on government to extend the gesture to Aiyepe road, where the local government secretariat is situated and other deplorable roads in the area.

Also speaking, a community leader, Alhaji Isiaka Ajayi, pointed out that water drainage linking Ewuoliwo through Awosanya and Isale Ojumele, contributed to the bad condition of the road which caused loss of lives, especially during the rainy season, calling on government to re-channel the water drainage to ensure its durability.

Contributing, a Youth Leader, Aare Kehinde Oseni, while appreciating the Chairman for the rehabilitation of the road, noted that the road would enhance the economic prospects of the area.

While pointing out that the issue of flooding had been a major challenge in the area, he appealed for the construction of more drainages, saying water drainage from Ewuoliwo should be re-channeled to enable the road stands the test of time, just as he called for additional street lights to other parts of the road.

In a separate interview, a driver, Mr. Momodu Tijani and a trader, Mrs. Omolara Komolafe, thanked government for rekindling their hope, pledging the continued support of the people to the present administration.
