OGUN TO RESUSCITATE OLOKOLA SEAPORT PROJECT - OGUN DEP. GOV.

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has said efforts were in top gear to resuscitate the Olokola Seaport, as well as initiate other developmental projects, with a view to developing the state, particularly Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state.


Engr. Salako-Oyedele, who made this known during the 5th coronation anniversary of the Osobia of Makun-Omi Kingdom, HRM, Oba Kazeem Salami, at Makun-Omi Motor park, Ayegbami, said Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration remained committed to developing the area, as well as tap into potential and natural resources of the local government.

“We are working with Afrexim and Arise to resuscitate that project among other projects that we have to bring to Ogun Waterside in the next three years, as a way of fulfilling our pledges to the people of Ogun Waterside, support it to develop and to harness the natural resources that Ogun waterside has, be it in agriculture, oil, gas and the natural draft of the Deep sea port”, she said.

While noting that the Area was blessed with natural resources, the Deputy–Governor assured the people that, as the Chairman Ogun State Boundary Committee, Ogun would not lose a square meter of its land to neighbouring states.

She congratulated the monarch, saying his 5th year on the throne had brought development, peace and harmony to the town and prayed that God would spear his life to celebrate more.

Contributing, Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, expressed the commitment of the state government in promoting the social cultural heritage of the state, lauded the celebrant for the developmental strides in Makun and its environs since his ascension to the throne, while praying for long life to celebrate more years on the throne.

On his part, Chairman, Ogun Waterside Local Government, Hon. Mudashiru Adekunle, represented by his vice, Princess Bisoye Philips, congratulated the King, describing him as a traditional ruler who promotes peace and harmony in Makun-Omi and its environs.

In his remarks, Oba Salami commended the state government for its support, expressing optimism that Makun Omi would soon become a major industrial hub in the state.

Earlier, Chairman, Anniversary Committee, Otunba Gbenga Onayiga, appreciated well-wishers for identifying with the monarch, calling on sons and daughters of the area to tap into the rich cultural heritage of Makun Omi to further boost the tourist sector.

Highlight of the event was conferment of chieftaincy titles on new chiefs and cutting of the anniversary cake.

JAMB APPLAUDS OGUN ON DIGITALISATION INITIATIVES

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has applauded Ogun State Government for digitalising its education system, thereby making it a reference point among comity of states in the country.

This came to fore during a courtesy visit by the representatives of JAMB, Abeokuta Branch, led by its Coordinator and Deputy Director, Mr. Hakeem Abdulhameed, to the office of Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu in Abeokuta, where the body commended the Ministry for it support and improving the standard of education in the state.

Speaking, Prof. Arigbabu said the introduction of technological innovations was to proffer permanent solution to major challenges encountered by the education sector and have a revitalised system, informing that the initiative was yielding desirable results.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner received the executive members of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Abeokuta Branch, who were on a courtesy visit to his office, saying the Ministry would continue to embrace professionalism through a paradigm shift from old teaching methods to modern techniques.

          Earlier, the Chief Executive, TRCN, Prof. Olusegun Ajiboye, represented by the Director of Operations, Alhaji Abimbola Okunola, appreciated the Ministry for ensuring TRCN achieved its mandate.

HOUSING: GOVT. SET TO PARTNER PRIVATE DEVELOPERS

Genuine private developers must collaborate and invest in the housing sector to checkmate housing deficits, thereby ensuring provision of more affordable houses for the people.

 Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, stated this while playing host to the executives of Real Estates Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Ogun State chapter, at the Conference Room of the Ministry, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, describing housing as an essential component in human life.

Jagunmolu Omoniyi noted that the visit of the Association was timely, informing that the housing scheme of the Prince Dapo Abiodun’s administration had delivered thousands of smart affordable houses different categories to the people of the state, just as the initiative had provided livelihood to the people through the engagement of artisans and a catalyst in boosting the economy.

Earlier in his address, State Chairman of REDAN, Dr. Adeyemi Adeniyi, who expressed delight with the success recorded in the state’s housing sector, noted that government had adopted an open economic system by building houses for people to purchase, pledging his Association’s support for the initiative of ‘Housing For All’ in the state.

OGSS TASKS REAL ESTATE DEVELOPERS ON SANITISING BUILT SECTOR

Real Estate developers have been charged to collaborate with Ogun State government in sanitising the built sector, in order to attract more investors into the state.     

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl Tunji Odunlami, stated this during a visit by the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Ogun Staye Chapter, at the Conference Room Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the objectives of the state is to bring in

TPl Odunlami decried the increased in radio announcement of sales of land with "buy land and get 2 cows", without layout permit from the state government, warning that any radio station involved in such act would henceforth be sanctioned, as people usually fall victims of fraudsters.

"We are concerned about existing development and up-coming ones.  You are the investors; you are business people providing land, property, houses, however a parallel line will be set aside for win-win situation", he said.

The Commissioner urged members of the Association to always obtain their layout plan before purchase and sale of land, stressing that a land of a hectare and above must have a layout plan before being put up for sale or advert, so as to curb activities of fraudsters.                         

     He commended some members of the Association, who had obtained layout approval before purchase of land and urged others do so, in order to give legal backing to their enterprise, advising them to get acquainted with the law guiding building right in the state, so as to prevent incidents of building collapse in the state.           Remarking, Chairman of the Association, Dr. Adeyemi Adeniyi, highlighted challenges plaguing the land industry, soliciting support of the Ministry at ensuring due procedure for building in Ogun state is stringently followed.

         He called on all developers to work in synergise with Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, in line with guided rules,  laws and code of conduct guiding landed property, with a view to proffer solutions to the Association's  challenges.

"We are here to collaborate, learn and associate with the Ministry, so as to know what to do and how to go about landed issues in Ogun state", he said.     

        Appreciating the management and staff of the Ministry, General Secretary of the Association, Mr. Ojikutu Olushola, who appealed for the Ministry's support, assured that the body would follow due process in building and purchasing of land in the state.

Earlier, the Co-ordinating Director in the Ministry, Mrs. Abiola Ayodele, commended members of the Association for seeking support of the Ministry, assuring them of a fruitful collaboration.

OGUN REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PROMOTION, PRESERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

The present administration in Ogun State will support initiatives that celebrate tradition, showcase artistic talents and promote tourism, thereby creating an enabling environment for youths to harness opportunities that could help cultural heritage to blossom globally.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi made this statement at the 2024 Okosi Festival celebration, at Makun-Omi, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state, noting that culture was not only a reflection of the past but a driving force for future developments which should be nurtured and preserved.

Hon. Fagbayi noted that cultural festivals such as Okosi Festival strengthens   identity, promote unity and stimulates economic growth, saying, "Let us show the world the beauty and richness of our culture. Let us continue to build a community that is proud of its past, present and future.

“May our culture continue to flourish and may Makun Omi community remain a beacon of unity and progress. Let us come together, let us celebrate and honour our ancestors and our heritage”.

He congratulated Oba Kazeem Salami, Ilufemiloba 1, Osobia of Makun Omi Kingdom, for the successful celebration, noting that the monarch’s undeniable role in the preservation and promotion of culture and the potential of the good people of Makun Omi Kingdom and Ogun State cannot be over-emphasised.

In his welcome address, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kazeem Adesina Salami, Ilufemiloba 1, Osobia of Makun Omi Kingdom, commended the state government for its unrelenting commitment and support for the sustenance and promotion of tourism and cultural heritage in the state.

The Monarch added that the developmental strides of the state government on good road network in the community and local government had greatly increased the economy of the area, expressing optimism that the community would continue to benefit more dividend of democracy of the present administration.

Highlight of the celebration was the ground-breaking ceremony of the Western Coast Maritime Academy, Makun Omi by the Commissioner.

In a related development, thirty illustrious sons and daughters of the town were conferred with various chieftaincy titles, with a charge on them to contribute their quota to the development and growth of the town and State at large, to commemorate the fifth year coronation anniversary of Oba Salami.

2024 STARLETTES SCHOOL SPORTS FESTIVAL: OGSG REITERATES COMMITMENT TO HOLISTIC EDUCATION

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has reiterated the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration’s commitment to holistic educational system through sports philosophy of resilience, discipline and teamwork, as well as inculcate the need to combine sports with education in the minds of learners, thereby encouraging diversification of knowledge and skills.

Speaking in Abeokuta during the Press Conference on 2024 Sports Festival for Secondary School Students, organised by the state government, in conjunction with 5 Mediacom Nigeria Limited, Prof. Arigbabu, described sports as essential to the psycho-motor development of learners.

          He explained that the competition would host over 1,000 learners-athletes, competing in more than 10 different sports disciplines in the state, saying each stage would be an opportunity to showcase skills, sportsmanship and sheer joy of participation.

          "This programme aimed at providing enhanced training and academic resources for our learners-athletes; ensuring they have the support needed to excel both in sports and their studies. The winners will have the opportunity of scholarships in three Nigeria universities", he said.

The Commissioner commended 5 MediaCom Nigeria Limited for supporting government in developing future generations through sports and education, adding that the initiative “exemplified the good spirit that enriches educational environment and provides opportunities for learners to shine”.

Underscoring the purpose of the event, the Chief Executive Officer, 5 MediaCom Nigeria Limited, Mr. Alex Okonkwo, explained that the theme of the event, "Play Fair and Enjoy Competition", was carefully chosen with idea that the students-athletes would participate, make contact, create more network, discuss with their peers, have fun, enjoy the competition and win laurels, thereby raising future stars, who would combine education with sports.

Also speaking, the Commandant, Nigeria Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, Mrs. Ibiba Odili, stated that the sporting event would be an avenue to enlighten the youths on drug abuse, adding that the importance of sports events cannot be overemphasised, as it reduces risk factors associated with drugs abuse and other risky behaviours among young ones, while developing their brains and help them to multi task and be disciplined. 

In their separate remarks, the President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr. Adeniyi Adekoya and the Director of School Sports, Mr. Olarotimi Okeleye, noted that engaging students in sports would bring positive changes in their attitudes, appreciating the government for bringing back sports activities in schools across the state.

HAJJ 2024: 845 OGUN  PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAUDI ARABIA

 

The first and second batches of 845 pilgrims from Ogun State, led by officials of Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, have arrived Medina, Saudi Arabia, landing at Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 11.15am and Monday, May 20, 2024, respectively, via Flynas Airline, to perform the holy pilgrimage.  

Confirming the arrival of the pilgrims to journalists in Medina, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Dauda Salau, said the third batch of pilgrims were expected to land before the end of the week, expressing gratitude to Allah for a safe journey.

Alhaji Salau attributed the success of the state's Hajj operations so far to Governor Dapo Abiodun's support, promising that the pilgrims would give a good account of themselves throughout the exercise.

He advised the pilgrims to keep in mind and utilised the information acquired from the sensitisation programmes organised for them prior to their departure, imploring them to follow the rules and obey the officials throughout their stay.

Reacting, one of the pilgrims, Alhaji Tijani Fadilullai, said the journey from the Hajj Camp in Lagos to Medina was flawless, commending the state officials for their diligence.

OVER 500 PEOPLE RECEIVE FG GRANTS IN SAGAMU LOCAL GOVERNMENT

In line with the drive to support small business-owners with capital across the states, the Federal Government has begun the distribution of N50,000 as grants to the people in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Speaking during the exercise at Sagamu Town Hall, Vice-Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Isiaka Salami, who described the process as laudable, advised beneficiaries to make use of the money judiciously, saying government’s priority was to improve the well-being of people through the cash grants.

On his part, the team lead for Sagamu cluster, Mr. Kasali Kabiru, stated that the exercise was for those that had already gotten Short Message Service (SMS) from Bank of Industry, when they applied and had been successfully approved as beneficiaries of the grant

He disclosed that over 1,300 people had already gotten the SMS which would enable them be captured for verification and later ensure successful disbursement of cash to individuals, affirming that nearly all those whose verification was successful had the grant deposited directly into their accounts to avert misappropriation.

Some of the beneficiaries, a trader, Mrs. Osokoya Abidemi, and a student, Mr. Olusanya Taofeek, appreciated government for the kind gesture, promising to spend the grant wisely and expand their businesses.
