OGSG FLAGS OFF SALES OF RICE TO CIVIL SERVANTS AT DISCOUNTED PRICES

Towards ensuring the welfare and wellness of the workers, especially in the face of the present economic hardship in the country,  Ogun State government has flagged-off sales of rice to Civil Servants at discounted prices, starting with Grade Levels 1 to 7.

Speaking during the event at 'Oja Irorun' Civil Servants farmers' market, Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said the gesture has once again demonstrated his resolve to provide affordable food to workers in the state.

Governor Abiodun, represented by the Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, said the occasion portrayed a significant step in the ongoing efforts at improving the living standard of workers, reiterating that his administration would continue to put its workforce’ welfare in its front burner.

"Ogun State Civil Servants' dedication and hard work form the bedrock of the progress and prosperity of our dear state. Recognising this invaluable essence of workers to the actualisation of the policies and programmes of the state government, the administration has graciously approved the sale of high quality bags of rice at discounted prices exclusively to the workforce.

“It is noteworthy that government has been aggressively devoting concerted efforts towards ensuring that the workforce and the entire people of the Gateway State are shielded as much as possible from the attendant effects of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government through various interventions which include, provision of monthly cash palliative, payment of peculiar allowance to deserving workers, provision of additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered buses, to aid the transportation of workers, as well as unprecedented payment of a robust end of year bonus to all Civil/Public Servants of the State last December, among others", he said.

Gov. Abiodun urged all workers across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to take full advantage of the opportunity and embrace the  gesture, adding that it was a proof to the belief that, “a well nourished workforce is a more robust and productive one”.

Earlier, Mr. Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, informed that the event was one of government’s initiatives to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal, urging workers to reciprocate by rededicating themselves to duties and collectively work for the progress of the state.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), Comrade Isa Olude and his counterpart from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ademola Ahmed-Benco, appreciated government for fulfilling its promise, as the move would restore the purchasing power of the people and promote the welfare of the workers, pledging Civil/Public Servants’ unalloyed support to government by effectively discharging their duties.

Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Temitope Akintayo from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as Mr. Olabanji Sanni from the Ministry of Environment, thanked government for putting the process into motion, promising to keep working assiduously to take the state to a higher pedestal.
