 35 WARDS IN REMO GET SOLAR PANELS

In a bid to promote the socio-economic well-being of the people, a member, representing Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, has given out 250 solar panels across 35 Wards in Remoland.


Speaking during the handing-over of the panels to Councillors in the Wards, tagged, ‘’Operation Light Up Remo’’, at the Federal Constituency Office, Sagamu, Ogun State, Hon. Onanuga said the initiative was aimed at improving the standard of living of the people and curbing acts of criminality, due to power outages being witnessed in the areas, urging the communities to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment.

“After having series of meetings with our Councillors and Ward leaders because they are the closest to the grassroots, who know the needs of the people in the communities, I realised that they have common needs; then we agreed to make light our priority and that brought about the initiative to ‘Light Up Remo’, she said.

Hon. Onanuga said 250 solar panels would be installed in the first phase, while 500 would be done in the second phase, explaining that the modality was to have six lights on a street and two lights in one health centre, making 8 solar panels per ward across Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas.

Remarking, the State Co-ordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Toyin Ajayi, represented by Engr. Shina Adeyemi, said the initiative was part of the policy of the Federal Government to ameliorate the suffering of the people and guide against external forces, appealing to the beneficiaries to imbibe maintenance culture.

On her part, Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Olufunmilayo Efuwape, appreciated Hon. Onanuga and the Federal Government for the kind gesture, soliciting more developmental projects in the area.

Responding on behalf of the benefitted Wards, the Deputy Majority Leader, House of Legislative, Sagamu LG, representing Ward 6 and representative of Ward 2, House of Representatives, Ikenne LG, Hon. Kunle Shodiya, promised to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment.

YNLG CHAIRMAN CONDOLES WITH BEREAVED FAMILIES, SCHOOLS OVER PUPILS' DEATH

The Chairman, Yewa North Local Government, Hon. Gabriel Ogunyomi and security agencies have paid condolence visits to African Primary School, Ayetoro and the family of a Primary Six pupil, Ayomide Aremu, who slumped and died in the school, as well as the parent of seven-year-old pupil of a private school, Al- Suuna Nursery/ Primary School, Master Idowu Ojo, who was kidnapped and murdered by assailants.

 Hon. Ogunyomi, while consoling the people, assured them of the provision of adequate security, particularly across schools in the area, promising that the killers of Master Idowu j would be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law.

The Chairman appreciated the people of Ayetoro for being law-abiding and refraining from violence over the incident, as well as the security network provided by the present administration among other necessary measures in combating crimes and criminality in the state.

In their separate remarks, the proprietress of the private school, Mrs. Modinat Akintunde and the Headmistress of the public primary school, Mrs. Adenike Adegbenro, commended the Chairman for empathising with them, assuring him of their cooperation towards ensuring the safety of the pupils at all times.

Responding, one of the parents of the deceased, Mr. Kayode Aremu, who expressed gratitude to the Chairman for coming to sympathise with them, noted that it was a painful loss but accepted their fate, calling on school authorities to be more vigilant during and after school activities.

CSC IN-HOUSE TRAINING HOLDS TOMORROW

 Ogun State Civil Service Commission (CSC) will hold its 2024 maiden edition of In-House Training for selected Civil Servants from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government in the state, tomorrow, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Obas’ Complex Hall, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta at 10.00 am prompt.   

A release signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi, in his office in Abeokuta, indicated that the training would be in the form of a symposium, adding that a seasoned administrator and retired Head of Service in the state, Princess Iyabo Odulate, would be moderating the discussion of three invited discussants on the theme, "Strict Adherence to Rules and Regulations in Treating Issues in the Service".

According to the release, four officers, which include Directors of Administration and Supplies, Finance and Accounts and two other relevant officers from selected MDAs should be in attendance by 9:30 am prompt, to acquaint them with emerging strategies and skills that would be useful in the discharge of their official duties.

GOV. ABIODUN COMMISERATES WITH IMAM GBAGURA OVER WIFE’S DEATH

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has commiserated with the Chief Imam of Gbagura, Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun, on the death of his wife, Alhaja Mistura Balogun, which occurred in the early hours of today, describing her demise as a great loss, not only to the immediate family but to the entire state.

Governor Abiodun, who spoke during a prayer session, at Gbagura Central Mosque, Agura, Abeokuta, described the deceased as a loving, accommodating and caring mother.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor added that the late Alhaja Balogun lived an exemplary life, worthy of emulation, urging the children to be of good character as their mother.

“We regret the passing of our mother and she will be sorely missed. The husband of the deceased is a man of honour and has contributed in no small measure to the propagation of Islam and the society at large", he said.

While praying that Almighty Allah repose the soul of the decease and grant her Aljana Fidraus, be with her families, especially the husband and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Earlier, the Consultant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs, Sheik Iskeel Lawal, described late Alhaja Balogun as a mother to all, religious, humble and a giver, urging Muslim Faithful to fear God, adding that people should bequeath enduring legacies as death is inevitable.

OGUN HoS GIVES KUDOS TO INDUCTION, ORIENTATION DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, has commended the committee set up to develop the Induction and Orientation Manual for the Civil Service for their selflessness at getting the job done.

Mr. Fagbohun, while receiving the committee report, draft copies of the document and a Training Module in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said the Chairman and the committee members were carefully selected based on their background, as well as track records in the Civil Service which added value to the Civil Service, promising to present the document to the State Executive Council for ratification.

He admonished ‘new generation’ officers to be constructive in their critique and not disrupt proceedings, which underscored the need for the manual, to orientate them at point of entry into the Civil Service.

Speaking, Chairman of the Committee, a retired Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Adekunle Adegbite, while presenting the document to the HoS, said the committee spent about four months to complete the task, noting that it consists of nine chapters; beginning with the introductory chapter on the Civil Service, the overview of the state, with other chapters on entry and exit in Civil Service, communication, training, performance evaluation, work environment, discipline among others.

He emphasised on the Training Module, pointing out that the documents would make the Service better, commending other members of the committee for their support, commitment and cooperation, while the assignment lasted.

BE PROACTIVE IN PREVENTING CHOLERA OUTBREAK, OTHERS – OGUN COMMISSIONER

Ogun State Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, has tasked staffers of the state Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN), to intensify efforts on sensitisation campaign to achieve optimal results in preventing cholera outbreak and other water-borne diseases.

Mrs. Ilori-Oduntan, who stated this during a familiarisation visit to the Agency at Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, said the officers were representatives of government and hope of the rural dwellers in the provision of potable water towards ensuring hygienic environment.

She commended the Agency for the feat achieved recently, where Ikenne Local Government was declared Open Defecation Free (ODF), charging them to be proactive, transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties.

On his part, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Sakirudeen Salaam, said officers should be diligent, stating that “government’s work is a chain which should not be broken to achieve the desired goal”.

Earlier, the Programme Manager, RUWATSAN, Mr. Sola Ogunbo said government was working assiduously to ensure potable water gets to all rural communities and make more local governments attain ODF status.

In a related development, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Rural Development, Engr. Salaam, who urged staffers of Ogun State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), to constantly ensure due diligence in executing and awarding contracts, added that provision of access roads would minimise post-harvest loss for farmers, admonishing management and staff to be dynamic in service delivery.

Speaking, Acting Project Coordinator, Engr. Waheed Adejumo, noted that the agency was abreast of challenges being encountered by farmers and had embarked on series of intervention programmes like, provision of modern storage facilities among others, to ensure food security, as well as the ongoing construction of 13.1km Ijanna Alapako road in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

AFCON 2023: OGUN TO AIR SUPER EAGLES’ MATCHES LIVE

The Semi-final match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa will be aired live at various accredited viewing centres across Ogun State, on Wednesday, February 7, at 6:00pm, to allow residents and football lovers watch the game free of charge.

A release signed by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, stated that the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun approved the viewing centres in support of the national team.

It indicated that the viewing venues at strategic locations across the state are, MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta; Skating Ground, Panseke, Abeokuta; Agunloye Pavilion, Ilaro; AUD Practicing School, Iganmode Road, Ota; Akarigbo Palace Ground, Sagamu; Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode and Imososi Primary School, Ago-Iwoye.

"We extend a warm invitation to all football enthusiasts, supporters and members of the public to join us for an exciting and captivating experience, as we cheer on our beloved Super Eagles in this pivotal match”.
