OLORUNSOGO-PAPALANTO INLAND DRY PORT WILL BENEFIT ALL - OGSG

The proposed Inland Dry Port (IDP) at Kajola-Papalanto project by Ogun State government will be of immense benefit to all and sundry in the state.


It would be recalled that the state government proposed the siting of a standard IDP at Papalanto, Olorunsogo in Ewekoro Local Government Area, in collaboration with Arise Group, in 2023.

Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, gave the assurance at a stakeholders' engagement meeting at Papalanto, revealing that the location of the project was carefully chosen and considered as the best option, due to its comparative advantage, as the standard gauge rail intercepts with the narrow gauge rail, which has its routes upward to Apapa Seaport in Lagos.

Engr. Dairo enjoined residents of the area to brace up for the emerging opportunities in that sector, saying it was high time they encouraged their wards to study relevant courses in transport and maritime.

“When this project becomes fully operational, considerations will be given to indigents who have relevant requisite, as they will be fully engaged”, he said.

The Commissioner promised that due diligence would be observed in compensating people whose properties fall within the land allocated for the project.

Speaking, the Federal Controller of Works in the state, Engr. Mrs. Forosola Oloyede, said the Federal Government through its Ministry of Works was directly involved in the project, as the agency was poised to fix federal roads along the project's corridor, noting that good road network would aid business activities and allow easy movement of vehicles along the axis.

Earlier, the Project Engineer in the state Ministry, Engr., Olatunde Philips, said the proposed 600 hectares of land for the project would cover areas that include, Abese, Soderu and Olorunsogo villages.

Remarking, the Southwest Director of the Nigeria Shippers Council, Mr. Moses Fadipe, who described the approval from the Federal Government as unprecedented, hinted that government had a policy of situating a maximum of one IDP in each of the geo- political zones of the country, advising community leaders in the area to support government in completing the project.

Other stakeholders at the meeting were the Vice-Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Sunkanmi  Olabode, A rise Group representative, Mr. Manoj Kumar, the Onipapa of Papalanto, Oba Rasak Famuyiwa,  Elejio of Ejio, Oba Olusesan Ogunmuyiwa,  among others.

OGSG SEEKS MORE AREAS OF PARTNERSHIP WITH IITA, OTHERS

Towards attaining food sufficiency and production, the Ogun state government has sought for continued collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and other agricultural organisations, to engender more ideas that would shore up the agriculture sector in the state.

 Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, stated this during his visit to the institute in Ibadan, explaining that the visit was to further synergise with IITA in capacity building for Agricultural Officers in the area of multiplication of cassava stems, adoption of modern technology, and using cassava feeds by livestock farmers among others, to boost agricultural production.

           Hon. Owotomo, who added that the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun would support any programme aimed at enhancing the livelihood of farmers, saying IITA's wealth of experience as an international agricultural institute had yielded positive results in the sector.

Also, the Commissioner visited the newly resuscitated Fasola Agribusiness Hub in Iseyin, where he promised to build a strong and beneficial partnership that would facilitate more opportunities to the state, in terms of cross-fertilisation of ideas and farmers’ empowerment, among others.

          Speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Samuel Adeogun, assured that knowledge garnered by the team led by the commissioner would be replicated in the state to improve farming practices, assuring more partnership to foster a closer relationship with IITA.

Remarking, the Chief Executive Officer, Business Incubation Platform, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Dr. Debo Akande, who took the Commissioner and his entourage round the two facilities, pointed out that data collation would optimise quality of work and ensure effective delivery of government agenda on agriculture, commending the state for the strides taken to collaborate with the institute.

           He stressed the need for government at all levels to harness opportunities in IITA, to ensure food sufficiency, with a focus on seed system and technical support for farmers to enhance productivity, assuring the state of its support at all times.

FG TO PARTNER OGUN ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The Federal Government (FG) has signified its readiness to partner with Ogun State government in providing well-serviced and affordable houses that would complement the housing policy of the present administration in the state.

This indication emerged during a visit of delegates from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to the Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaking, Jagunmolu Omoniyi said as a responsive and responsible government, the Ministry had not relaxed  in meeting the housing needs of the people across all strata, appreciating the collaboration of the Federal government and private organisations on the provision of decent accommodation in the state, which had considerably reduced housing deficit to the barest minimum.

The Commissioner assured that the present administration would continue to partner and key into the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of President Bola Tinubu, at ensuring that affordable housing was provided for the people, to ameliorate hardship being experienced in the country.

Earlier, the Head of the delegation, TPL. Taiwo Adeluola, appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun’s giant strides in the housing sector, soliciting for a suitable and viable land with adequate off-site infrastructure, for easy accessibility to the housing project, in preparation for the actualisation of its vision.

TPL. Adeluola revealed that the FG was set to commence the construction of 34,500 housing units in 36 states of the federation, including Federal Capital Territory, to bridge the housing deficit in the country.

"The Renewed Hope Estates will consist of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom flats affordable multi-levels flats and bungalow for low income earners, as well as high-end detached bungalows terraces and duplexes for high income earners", he said.

OGSG, INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS TO ENGAGE 100,000 SMSEs, YOUTHS

Poised to upscale businesses for development and prosperity, Ogun State Government, through GetFundedAfrica Technologies (GFAT), in partnership with Microsoft, Google and Meta, is set to train 100,000 Small Medium Scale Enterprises (SMSEs), especially youths on emerging technologies, towards attaining the peak in digital economy.

 Delivering a keynote address virtually, during the official launch of the training at OgunTechHub, Abeokuta, tagged, "Gateway Skills Programme", the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Cyber Security, Senator Shuaib Salisu, said the empowerment would be an opportunity for SMSEs and youths who want to be self-reliant to be equipped with relevant technology skills that would enable them meet up with digital marketing.

Senator Salisu, who expressed optimism that the programme would revive the economic situation in Nigeria, said the state has the potential to drive the programme in achieving desired goal.

Also speaking, Special Adviser on ICT, Mr. Dayo Abiodun, said the partnership with Microsoft, Google and others was a deliberate attempt by the state government to expose small business owners, as well as young graduates to hidden benefits of digital economy, calling on beneficiaries to get registered, trained, certified and start working immediately, among other opportunities.

On his part, the Co-Founder, GFAT, Mr. Adebowale Omololu, explained that the programme was designed for SMSEs and young graduates in Ogun, to be the first beneficiaries before other states, give them necessary support to develop carriers in ICT, access finance and mentorship to grow their businesses, noting that digital economy is a pathway for thriving entrepreneurship.

 According to him, ‘’We chose Ogun State first among others because of the business-friendly atmosphere created by Prince Dapo Abiodun. So, a portal will be opened for interested SMSEs to register; we will take them through different training sessions, upscale their products and services to a tech community and help them to access grants from international and local partners. Also, job seekers will have direct or indirect opportunities, thereby promoting digital marketing that will in the long run, boost revenue and position Ogun State on high pedestal".

OVER 730 IJEBU-ODE RESIDENTS BENEFIT FROM FREE MEDICAL SURGERY

A large number of Ijebu-Ode residents have benefited from the on-going free surgical initiatives of the Ogun State government, which they acclaimed to be one of the best health programmes in the annals of the local government to help in alleviating the impact of the economic challenges being experienced nationwide.

Some beneficiaries showered encomium on the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the initiative at Ijebu-Ode General Hospital.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Temitayo Adesiji, appreciated Governor Abiodun for this timely intervention, saying he had gone to a private hospital where he was asked to pay a huge sum of money for the operation.

"I want to use this medium to thank the Governor for this kind gesture, we appreciate it", he said.

Also commenting, Mr. Olowokere Damilola, who was elated to be part of the free surgical intervention, noted that, "if not for this surgical intervention, I would not be able to afford the surgery because it requires a huge amount of money but I thank God for this opportunity from our Governor".

While another beneficiary, Mrs. Remi Adesanya, said the intervention was timely, enthusing that all the expenses for the surgery were free, as no money was required for all the tests.

"I can only thank Governor Abiodun for this kind gesture. We appreciate him for being magnanimous", she said.
