OGUN SET TO TACKLE TRANSPORTATION CHALLENGES WITH NEW ENERGY - ABIODUN
Ogun State government has continued to set the pace for sustainable transportation system with the use of alternative source of energy.
The state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this while declaring open the 18th National Council of Transportation Conference, with the theme, “Enhancing Innovations and Technologies for Sustainable Transportation: Tackling The Energy Challenges”, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun said the theme of the Conference was apt at a time when the nation is faced with serious energy challenges, occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy which had a spiral effect on cost of transportation and other associated utilities, revealing that the state had initiated the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project before the federal government.d
He said his administration had rolled out the CNG-powered vehicles to support green environment, fight against global warming and ultimately ease transportation burden being encountered by the public, adding that other alternative source of energy to power vehicles for transportation, including electric trucks and motorbikes, had also been launched.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, explained that the Multi-Modal Transport Master Plan of the state had created opportunities for residents and road users to enhance their businesses across all strata, while Cargo Airport at Iperu, Inland Dry Port at Papalanto would cater for the material needs of the ever-growing industrial cities across the state and beyond.
He enjoined delegates to build on the potentiality inherent in the cross-fertilisation of ideas, innovations and technologies, saying the platform would enable states to develop a new model for arresting the energy crisis in the country.
Speaking, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Michael Oloruntola appreciated the state government for hosting the Conference, noting that the choice of Abeokuta was symbolic, as it has the cultural and historical traits that bind the people together as a nation.
He pointed out that prioritisation of innovative technologies that enhanced affordability, accessibility, safety, security and environmental sustainability was the core objective of the Conference, calling on participants to embrace sustainable transport development that would enhance job creation and stimulate economic growth.
On his part, Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Transportation, Dr. AbdulWaheed Olanloye, said discussions on how to embrace innovative technologies that would promote sustainability in addressing the energy challenges facing the transportation sector could not have come at a better time.

LEVERAGING ON DIGITAL RESOURCES CATALYST FOR IMPROVED ECONOMY- ABIODUN
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says on assumption in office, his administration realised the need to develop and leverage on digital resources in harnessing the state’s potential in a technological-driven competitive world, while raising the bar of economic parameters.
Governor Abiodun made this known in Lagos, during a book launch titled, "The Transformational Leader (The Journey of a Tech Pro Turned Bank CEO), authored by the immediate past Managing Director of Wema Bank, Mr. Ademola Adebise.
"At the inception of our administration in 2019, we identified the fact that businesses cannot survive in the 21st century without innovation and creative content since all activities undertaken in the business sector are linked to Information Technology”.
"In Ogun State, our administration has continued to raise the bar on all economic parameters. It is not gain saying that the uniqueness and competitive advantage of Ogun State as a Gateway to Nigeria's prosperity, especially with the largest concentration of industries in Nigeria, our strategic location, human and natural resources, as well as proximity to Lagos State have positioned our state as the investor's destination of choice", he said.
The Governor noted that the book encapsulates the challenges and successes of Mr. Adebise in the banking sector which would serve as a good reference document, as well as a veritable source of inspiration, adding that integrity, innovation, dedication, relentless pursuit of excellence and professionalism, were values that guided the writer as an astute banking administrator.
Governor Abiodun, while acknowledging the bank executive for being part of the leadership team that launched the 'Alat App’ which had become a foremost digital financial services platform in the country with over 1.3 Million users, commended him for the innovation.

MRS. ABIODUN PAYS UTME REGISTRATION FEE FOR 100 STUDENTS
In the spirit of Valentine, Wife of the Ogun state Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has paid the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration fee for 100 students with the best West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results in the state.
Mrs. Abiodun disclosed this in Abeokuta, saying Valentine's season was an opportunity to embrace love and express it in a unique way that would bring joy and a sense of belonging to people around us.
"Let us strive to show love to those around us every day, for love holds the key to all our problems", she said.
She enjoined others to be inspired to spread love in their ways while ensuring that love continues to be the guiding force in everyday pursuits.

HoS HARPS ON ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVT.
Certificates and academic qualifications can no longer sustain anyone except entrepreneurial skills are built to sustain the nation's economy.
Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, made this known in a goodwill message delivered at the 3rd convocation ceremony of the Redeemer's College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), at the Redemption City, Mowe, Ogun State.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, the HoS urged the students to think of sustainable ways that require skills and expertise in the technological-driven society, saying knowledge and skills that the graduands acquired must be utilised to create wealth and become job providers rather than job seekers.
Earlier, the Visitor to the College, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, represented by his wife and Mother-in-Israel of the Mission, Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, while releasing the father's blessing on the graduating students, admonished them to put God first in everything and strive to be the best in whatever they do.
Speaking, the Rector of RECTEM, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Mofunanya, outlined the achievements of the institution in the area of academic excellence, youth and sports, including approval to run Higher National Diploma programmes, awards for entrepreneurship development and introduction of new programmes for the college, among others.
She advised the graduating students to see the National Diploma certificates as the beginning of their educational pursuits and success.
Responding on behalf of the graduands, the Best Graduating Student, Miss Esther Ocha, appreciated the management of the school for the opportunity to excel in their academics, noting that, “education remains a passport that guarantees the future which can only be reaped by those who invested in it”.

OGUN, WHO COLLABORATE TO TACKLE COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS
In a bid to reduce COVID-19-related illness, the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO)-Canadian Global Initiative Vaccination Equity (Can-GIVE) is set to begin vaccination in the state.
Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, while speaking at a stakeholders meeting in Abeokuta, stated that the project aimed at reducing incidences of COVID-19 related deaths and serious illnesses, particularly among priority groups and the vulnerable.
Ogunsola appreciated the stakeholders for their commitment and support, urging them to enlighten people on the need to be vaccinated.
WHO consultant on Can-GIVE project, Mrs. Amina Bwala, in her presentation, said the project was to create awareness for vaccination, increase coverage and provide information on its safety and efficacy.
Mrs. Bwala disclosed that implementation of the project would be in 15 states including Ogun, saying criteria for selection were based on low uptake of vaccination among the priority population groups which were the elderly from 50 years and above, those with chronic diseases and morbidities, pregnant women, health workers and general population.
Earlier, the Director, Disease Control and Immunisation, Dr. Thomas Solarin, commended health workers, faith-based groups, Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, state mobilizers, Community Development Associations, among others, appealing to them to ensure the project is successful.

GOVT. PROMISES MORE DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY TO THE GRASSROOTS
Ogun State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Alhaji Ademola Balogun, has reiterated the present administration's commitments to bringing dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
Alhaji Balogun made this known in Abeokuta, at the 10th Year Anniversary, Investiture and Award Presentation of Ilupeju Oke-Odo Area Community Development Committee (ACDC), called on community leaders to always inform the government of their activities and needs, to fast-track development in their areas.
Represented by the Director of Community Development, Mr. Nurudeen Fayoyin, the Commissioner applauded the Committee for their achievements, especially, the peaceful co-existence among the people, assuring them of prompt government support and intervention.
Contributing, Ogun State Commandant, Nigeria So Safe Corps, Mr. Soji Ganzalo, charged community leaders and members of the public to take their security seriously, emphasising the need for communities to take charge of their safety and always be vigilant.
Mr. Ganzalo, who was represented by the Corps Director of Information, AC Moruf Yussuf, while delivering a lecture titled, "Community Security and Policing”, encouraged community members to be safety conscious, as security agencies alone cannot fight this battle, affirming that, “security is for all and must be viewed as such; it takes a collective effort to ensure safe environment”.
On his part, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sabo Police Station, CSP Mustapha Opawuyi, who admonished the people to love each other to foster mutual corporation and peaceful coexistence, noted that community security and policing would work where there is harmony and unity of purpose, saying, "we need to take conscious effort to make our communities safe and secured".
Remarking, the Area Community Development Committee Chairman, Dr. Munir Adesola, appreciated the state government for its support, appealing to Governor Abiodun to do more in the area of security and not to relent in organising empowerment programmes and other subventions for communities, as it would go a long way in managing community affairs and provision of social amenities.

CSR: ADO-ODO /OTA LG HONOURS COMPANIES
The Chairman, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Engr. Sheriff Musa has honoured manufacturing companies and corporate organisations for effective discharge of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which has impacted the lives of the people and accelerated socio-economic development in the council area.
Engr. Musa disclosed this during the maiden edition of Corporate Appreciation and Awards of Recognition, organised by the local government to honour and celebrate the manufacturing companies for their developmental support in the area, with the theme, "Advancing the Local Government Through Public-Private Partnership", at Ota.
He said the event was also to create a sustainable harmonious relationship that would further engender conducive industrial relations, appreciating some organisations, reeling out some of the companies and outstanding CSR projects that had transformed the lives of people which include the construction of Oju-Ore-Ilogbo Road by the Shell Nigeria, resurfacing and maintenance of Obasanjo Farms Road, Ota by Tempo Paper Pulp and Packaging Limited, rehabilitation of Onimalu-Onipanu Road by Nigeria Bottling Company, Access Road from Ilogbo Road via Jendol to Idiroko Expressway, undertaken by CWAY Foods and Beverages.
The council boss commended Fidson Healthcare PLC, Veepee and other companies along Veepee Animashaun Road for the construction of drainages along the two sides of Veepee-Animashaun Road, stating human capital development through various skills acquisition programmes and awards of scholarships to numerous indigent students by Covenant University (CU), Ambassadors Group of Schools, Ace Medicare Clinic, Lion's International, Rotary Club and West Africa Gas Pipeline.
Engr. Musa said it was imperative to appreciate the laudable CSR projects and financial contributions which had improved the internally generated revenue and ensured that roads within the local government remain motorable through unrelenting efforts of the Living Faith International Church (Winners Chapel), among contributions of other companies.
Olota of Ota, Oba Prof. Abdukabir Obalanlege, appreciated the companies for their commitment, enjoining them to do more as various communities would continue to support them by making the environment more conducive for their various industrial operations.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, the Managing Director, Kokun Integrated Services, Engr. Diran Kokun, as well as the founder, Ambassador Schools, Ota, Dr. Osewa, promised to encourage more organisations to join in the efforts at making the council area an enviable place, affirming that government should not be left alone in the area of development.
