The present administration’s huge investment and commitment in education have made it functional and result-oriented for seamless academic activities in all educational institutions in Ogun State.
State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who made this known during the 32nd and 33rd joint Convocation ceremonies of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye, said the decision to prioritise education had made the state to retain its pride of place in the sector.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun noted that as an administration, deliberate efforts at ensuring that education remained paramount, informed its inclusion of the five-point agenda, reeling out the proactive measures to include, timely approval and disbursement of monthly subvention to all state tertiary institutions, granting bailout funds to mitigate financial challenges, as well as ensuring accreditation of courses.
He reiterated that the Olabisi Onabanjo University was not just a great citadel of learning, where academic excellence and good moral training were incorporated into the students, but also to blaze the trail in the propagation of positive virtues, describing the institution as a beacon of knowledge.
The state’s helmsman promised to continue with the tradition of cash donations of two million naira each to the Overall Best Graduating students in both 2021 and 2022 academic sessions, while the best-graduating student in each faculty would be gifted N500,000.00, appreciating the Pro-chancellor, Chairman Governing Board and the Vice Chancellor for their efforts.
He assured of deploying resources within available means towards the welfare of personnel in the education sector and evolving policies and programmes that would ensure development, advising the graduands to bring to bear the knowledge garnered during the course of their studies to the development of Nigeria.
Speaking, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr. Toyin Ashiru, who noted that the event marked a significant milestone in the history of the institution, disclosed that 10 developmental programmes, among others, were introduced and validated by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC), attributing the school giant strides to the support of the state government, governing council, management and students of the University,
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, commended the state government for its contributions to the growth and development of the institution, saying the school established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with research-intensive university and improve on the institution’s entrepreneurship programmes, among others, while 15, 428 graduated from both first and second degrees.
Giving a Valedictory Speech, a representative of the Post-Graduate students, Dr. Oluwakemi Kalejaiye, appreciated Almighty God, Vice-Chancellor, management and lecturers for their efforts towards the success of the programmes, adding that the institution had widened their horizon to be able to face any future challenges.
Highlight of the event was the conferment of an honorary doctorate on the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi and Dr. (Mrs.) Mosun Olukoga.

COMMITMENT, LOYALTY ESSENTIAL FOR SUCCESSFUL GOVERNANCE - OGUN HoS
Public Servants' commitment and allegiance to government have been identified as essential in achieving the goals and objectives of the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, made this known while declaring open a two-day workshop on, "Work Commitment and Loyalty to Government", for senior management staff in the state Civil Service, at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, affirming that the Public Servants should be seen as professionals with schedule of duties, adaptability, career enhancement, punctuality, accountability and alignment with government goals and objectives.
Mr. Fagbohun described loyalty as a catalyst for innovation, collaboration, long-term success and breeds trust that could prevent leakages of information, revenue and diversion of resources in the Public Service, urging workers to adhere to ethical practices and strive to ensure the success of any administration they serve through unalloyed commitment and loyalty.
In his remarks, the Lead Consultant, who is a former Head of Service in the Oyo State Civil Service, Alhaji Tajudeen Aremu, said the theme of the training borders on leadership problems in Nigeria, adding that commitment and loyalty were essential to all activities in the Service, enjoining participants to utilise the knowledge gained through the training and cascade it to subordinates in their various MDAs.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, represented by the Director, Management Services and Training, Mr. Olusegun Akinfaiye, said the training aimed to improve the capacity of the participants with a career-impacting experience for personal development and enhancement of service delivery.
In their separate goodwill messages, Permanent Secretaries, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Rotimi Akinlesi, as well as Bureaux of Public Service Reforms and Service Matters, Messers Jola Oyeneye and Oladipupo Ogunfowora respectively, said capacity building for workers enhance productivity, urging participants to take advantage of the training for their personal and workplace development.

WORKERS URGED TO EVOLVE WAYS TO BOOST IGR
Members of staff of the Ogun State Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment have been charged to devise sustainable means of surpassing the revenue target as the new year unfolds.
The state Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun gave the charge in Abeokuta, while declaring open a two-day Management Retreat for senior management staff in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, as well as allied agencies, with the theme, "Repositioning the Ministry for Success in the Delivery of Her Mandate in 2024".
Mr. Fagbohun said the retreat was apt, in a bid to sustain the current position of the state as second with the highest in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the country, which was achievable by the collective efforts of Civil Servants.
"This retreat could not have come at a better time as this when the state government is in dire need of cutting-edge innovations and lofty ideas that will drive the wheels of enhanced performance, towards the continued successful delivery of the ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda of the current administration in our state", he said.
The HoS noted that the effectiveness of any organisation depends on strategic planning, execution, innovation, leadership alignment, optimisation of resources, strong collaboration of the workforce and operational efficiency, pointing out that it was essential for the management staff to embark on frequent re-evaluation of service delivery and mode of operations, in achieving Ministries, Departments and Agencies’ goals and objectives.
Mr. Fagbohun, who acknowledged Governor Dapo Abiodun’s quality leadership, resilience and unwavering commitment to governance, said his approval for numerous capacity building for all categories of officers across the state Public Service, was a clear demonstration of his commitment to the efficiency of the workforce, charging the participants to use their ideas and expertise to actualise the objectives of the retreat.
On his part, Commissioner in the Ministry, Mr. Adebola Sofela, appreciated the governor for creating an enabling environment for the Public Servants in the effective discharge of duties and for businesses to thrive, revealed that the retreat was to channel ways of fulfilling the agency’s mandate for the year 2024.
In their goodwill messages, Permanent Secretaries, Bureaux of Public Service Reforms, Political Affairs and Administration, as well as Service Matters Messers Jola Oyeneye, Kehinde Onasanya and Oladipupo Ogunfowora respectively, appreciated the Ministry for building the capacity of the workers, urging the participants to have a growth mindset towards the investment and Internally Generated Revenue drive of the government.

OGUN HoS REWARDS TWO WORKERS FOR DILIGENCE
Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, has appreciated two top Civil Servants, the Director, Finance and Supplies, Mrs. Kikelomo Ajayi and Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Akinbobola Aduloju, both from the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, with commendation letters for displaying passion, dedication, commitment and loyalty in the discharge of their statutory duties.
Presenting letters of commendation signed by him to the duo in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Mr. Fagbohun, in the presence of a retired Head of Service in the Oyo State Civil Service, Alhaji Tajudeen Aremu and some Permanent Secretaries, said the duo had been under his observation and excelled in the tasks and undertakings.
He charged them not to relent in pursuing excellence, urging other officers to emulate them, in order to be compensated.
"Continue to be yourself. Do not fret when an allegation has been levelled against you, knowing full well that you are not guilty. Keep doing what you know how to do and do not relent in doing good", he said.
Remarking, Alhaji Aremu, who thanked the HoS for the decision to present the documented evidence of good performance to the workers, added that it was a good step in the right direction, appreciating the state’s Civil Servants for diligence, at a time when moral standard had degenerated but they kept their heads high.
Responding, Mrs. Ajayi, who expressed surprise at the gesture, pledged more commitment and dedication to duty.

GOVT. TAKES STEP TO CHECK SUBSTANDARD BLOCKS
Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has expressed plans to constitute a monitoring team towards checkmating the sales of substandard blocks as part of its efforts at curtailing incidences of building collapse.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl Olatunji Odunlami, made this known in Abeokuta, during a courtesy visit by the Ogun State Chapter of Block Moulders Association of Nigeria, saying substandard blocks produced largely by unregulated block moulders was one of the challenges facing the built industry.
“The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, through Ogun State Building Production Management Authority, is committed to ensuring that buildings are built better, stronger, to stand the test of time and prevent collapse,” the Commissioner stated.
Emphasising the importance of quality blocks to safety and longevity of buildings, Odunlami further stated that the Ministry and its agencies were open to collaboration with critical stakeholders in the built industry, hinting that the domestication of the National Building Code in Ogun State was being finalised to serve as an additional regulatory instrument.
Remarking, the state Chairman of the Association, Chief Abiodun Ajayi, who decried the tendency to condemn block makers whenever a building collapsed, appreciated the present administration towards bringing sanity into the sector, calling for government’s support in weeding out erring block makers, who refused to follow the stipulated standards, towards ensuring safety of the people.

OGUN COMMISSIONER HARPS ON GOAL SETTING, KPIs AS TOOLS FOR SUCCESS
Ogun State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela has charged workers in the Ministry to be committed to the tenets of goal setting and pursuance of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to excel in their schedule of duties.
Sofela gave this charge at a two-day Management Retreat for staffers of the Ministry, which was declared open by the Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun in Abeokuta, with the theme, "Repositioning the Ministry for Success in the Delivery of Her Mandate", said the retreat was an opportunity to learn, as it underscores collective resolve to adapt, innovate and excel in fulfilling the set goals of the Ministry.
"Despite working in a bureaucracy, we do not have to be bureaucratic. The most important KPIs for us include facilitation of investment and trade, creating jobs and we cannot but do things differently”.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Dawodu, said the retreat was premised on strategic planning, sharing and learning, just as she expressed optimism that the Ministry was out for a result-oriented year.
Also speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, reiterated the need for enforcement to reduce illegal mining operations, pointing out that the agency was committed to motivating its staff for greater output.
Other dignitaries present at the retreat include, serving and retired Permanent Secretaries, and resource persons, among others.

DO NOT COLLECT ILLEGAL FEES FROM LEARNERS – OGUN SUBEB BOSS
The Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi has cautioned teachers in public primary schools across the state not to collect illegal fees from learners.
Dr. Majekodunmi gave the warning during an interview on a radio programme in Abeokuta, warning that any teacher caught extorting money from pupils would face disciplinary actions, as education is free in the state.
He advised parents and guidance not to pay any unapproved levies, just as he maintained that Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had not relented in its statutory duties by ensuring the smooth running of schools since assumption of office and prompt payment of Running Cost to schools.
The SUBEB boss also revealed that the Federal Government would soon reintroduce the Home Grown School Feeding Programme to all public primary schools across Nigeria.
He assured that government would continue to prioritise the capacity building of teachers, to improve professionalism and service delivery.

WOMEN IN OGUN HOLD PRAYERS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE, OTHERS
Women in Ogun State have held a special prayer programme for peace, good governance and sustainable development of the state, as well as individual prosperity of the people.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Hon. Adijat Adeleye, while speaking at the programme in Abeokuta, with the theme, “Akanse Adura, Ogun Women Prays For Omooba Dapo Abiodun and Engr. Noimot Salako- Oyedele”, emphasised the role of women in nation building.
Hon. Adeleye said the programme was organised by the Ministry to give women the opportunity to come together to pray in unity for successful governance and for the present administration to deliver on its electioneering promises, in order to further achieve the targeted developmental goals in the state.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Oluwaseyi Sokoya, said the essence of the prayer session was to acknowledge the supremacy of God on the state and the Ministry and to commit the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration and the entire indigenes of the state to the hands of God.
In their goodwill messages, a representative of the Spouses of State Government Functionaries Association (SOSGFA), Mrs. Florence Fagbohun, appreciated the leadership of the Ministry for deeming it fit to organise women to pray for the present administration and the people of the state.
In their separate prayer sessions, representatives of the Christian, Muslim and traditional faith in the state, Rev. (Mrs.) Fola Achidume, Chief Imam, Yunis Odekunle and the Iyalosa Efunyebo Omolara, respectively, led the women in fervent prayers for more achievements for the present administration and the state in general.
