SECURITY, A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY - OGSG
Security is a collective responsibility of citizens and not solely the duty of security agencies and government.
Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, stated this during a day in-house training for staffers at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, admonishing them to be security and safety conscious by taking cognizance of their environment, in order to live a peaceable life, free of fear or danger.
Hon. Hamzat, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, stressed that the importance of the training could not be over-emphasised, considering the spate of insecurity in the country and its impact on workers in the effective discharge of their responsibilities, commending the state government for the peace witnessed so far in the State, which has paved the way for the establishment of many industries and organisations.
Delivering a lecture on the topic, ’’Security Awareness and Safety Tips’’, the Guest Speaker, Commander, Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety (So-Safe) Corps, Commander Soji Ganzallo, represented by the Assistant Commander, Commander Moruf Yusuf, pointed out that security and safety should be everybody’s business and every citizen must play their role in securing the society.
He added that security starts from home, calling on individuals to build a strong security network, be security conscious and sensitive to the environment.
The Commander highlighted some safety tips such as, avoiding a routine lifestyle, maintaining good relationships in the community, managing information in the public domain, avoiding distractions in a crowded environment, employing house guards and security dogs, as well as reporting any suspicious move to security personnel, reeling out numbers residents can reach out to in case of emergency, including, 09069392064, 08035479930 and a toll-free line, 615.
In their remarks, two participants, Mr. Sunday Oduntan and Mrs. Kolade Omolola, appreciated the management for organising the training, in view of the current security challenges in the country, promising that the knowledge garnered would be put to good use.
