OGSG APPLAUDS OLD STUDENTS' DEVELOPMENTAL INITIATIVES

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has applauded Old Students and Pupils Associations in the State for helping government through developmental initiatives in their various schools, just as he reaffirmed government’s readiness to host the proposed Education Summit.


Prof. Arigbabu, who stated this in Abeokuta, during a Stakeholders’ Engagement with Old Students and Old Pupils Associations, said government could not carry the financial burden of education alone, hence, there was need to acknowledge the Associations gesture towards the development of education in the state. 

He disclosed that arrangements had been concluded to invite experts in the education sector within and outside the country for an Education Summit, explaining that it would be a platform to brainstorm on better ways of positively impacting and repositioning the education system in the state for productive results.

The Commissioner noted the proactive measures by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration to rescue the education sector, including provision of infrastructure and social amenities in schools, capacity building for teachers on new teaching pedagogy and oversee training for teachers in technical colleges, among others.

"As part of efforts to further build the capacity of teachers after training them on new teaching pedagogy, we have taken a step further by planning to procure laptop computers for all teachers in the state, to enable them implement technological innovations", he said.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, described the Associations as number one support of government policies on education, commending them for rendering unflinching assistance for learners' success.

Responding on behalf of others, Dr. Hassan Adelakun, an old student of Ajoda High School, Ayetoro and Mr. Ibrahim Nasir of N.U.D High School, Oke-Ijeun, appreciated the present government in Ogun State for their timely intervention to rescue education system from collapsing, lamenting encroachment on school lands.

OGSG PROMISES MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING ESTATES

Towards meeting the increasing number of applicants seeking to benefit from its affordable housing scheme, Ogun State Government has put up other measures to deliver more housing units for subscribers across the three senatorial district of the state.

Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, made this known while fielding questions from newsmen after an inspection tour to Prince Court Estates at Sagamu and Ijebu- Ode, pointing out that the tour was to assess their level of completion.

"I want to express my delight at the level and quality of jobs done by the teams of Housing Ministry and Ogun State Housing Corporation; and as His Excellency promised, all our housing projects spread across the three Senatorial Districts will soon be inaugurated for the benefit of the general public, with more focus on the low and medium income earners in the state", he said.

Omoniyi recalled that the success recorded in the previous phases in some parts of the state, being constructed through Ministry of Housing and Ogun State Housing Corporation, prompted people to key into the scheme which spurred government on to build more.

He described the estates being constructed since inception of the present administration, as one of the best and cheapest, adding that the agency’s intervention in the housing sector had facilitated the construction of Prince Court Estates at Kemta-Idi-Aba 1&2, Kobape, Sagamu, Ilaro, Ijebu-Ode and Iperu which comprised two-bedroom bungalow expandable to three.

The Commissioner implored the people to continue to support the Prince Dapo Abiodun’s government, promising more construction of affordable houses across the state.

OGUN SCHOOL RESUMPTION: COMMISSIONER EXPRESSES SATISFACTION AT ATTENDANCE

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has expressed satisfaction at the impressive attendance of learners and teachers in both public and private primary and secondary schools, as well as Government Technical Colleges across the 20 Local Governments Areas of the state, in readiness for the 2023/2024 Second Term Academic Session.

Prof. Arigbabu, while monitoring the resumption in Ijebu-Ode, Odogbolu, Sagamu and Abeokuta axis of the state, appreciated Principals and parents for effecting the objectives of the Pre-resumption Stakeholders Meetings, earlier held to ensure smooth academic activities, promising that government would continue to provide serene and conducive teaching and learning environment.

The Commissioner, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, stated that the present administration’s bid to further ensure conducive environment for learning was demonstrated through construction of new classrooms, as well as provision of other amenities in schools across the state.

He expressed delight on new development in schools, especially the Old Student Association intervention projects, said their contributions had brought about needed transformations, affirming the digitalisation compliance in schools across the state, which preferred permanent solutions to many challenges encountered in the education sector

 "I'm happy that today being the first day in school. We are satisfied with the level of compliance by the Principals and teachers, as well as learners settling down in their classes", he said.

In their separate responses, the Principals of Ifesowapo Comprehensive High School (Senior), Imodi, Ijebu, Mrs. Adebisi Ogunsobo; Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Chief Joseph Odufuwa; Remo Secondary Schools, (Snr.) Sagamu, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Asaye and Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammar School, Isabo, Abeokuta, Mrs. Mary Oguniran, commended the government on its initiatives and quick responses to the needs of schools, promising to continue to put in their best towards taking education to higher pedestal.

OGUN DIRECTOR-GENERAL CHARGES STAFFERS ON PRODUCTIVITY, OTHERS

The Director-General, Ogun State Bureau of Lands and Survey, Arch. Segun Fowora, has charged the management and staff to be more productive and supportive.

Arch. Fowora stated this at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, during the New Year prayer session, organised by the Bureau, appreciating the management team, Land Officers, Estate Surveyors, Administrative Officers and others, for their unflinching loyalty and meaningful contributions to surmount various challenges in the outgone year.

He enjoined officers to be more proactive, transparent and dedicated to their duties, in order to redeem the image of the Bureau in the new year and beyond, reiterating the need for cooperation among staffers, just as efforts must be geared towards surpassing the previous year’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Arch. Fowora further urged the staffers to work in unity of purpose, so as to achieve uncommon progress for the agency, adding that collective success would be achieved in an atmosphere of unity and oneness, promising to prioritise staffers’ welfare.

Responding on behalf of the members of the staff of the agency, Acting Surveyor-General, Surv. Oladele Ewulo, appreciated government for the unprecedented Christmas bonus for all the workers, to spur workers to do more in the new year.

He equally thanked the Director General, promising unalloyed loyalty and cooperation of the staff to achieve increased IGR.

Prayers were later offered in Islamic and Christian ways by selected members of the agency to usher in peace, progress and unity among the members of the staff.

YEWA NORTH LG CHAIRMAN CALLS FOR TEACHERS' COMMITMENT

The Chairman, Yewa North Local Government in Ogun State, Hon. Gabriel Ogunyomi, has called on teachers to be more dedicated in the discharge of their duties through effective impartation of knowledge to engender academic excellence in their learners.

Hon. Ogunyomi, who stated this in a chat with newsmen in his office at Ayetoro, said teachers’ commitment and passion for school work would have positive impact on the lives of the pupils, urging them to brace up and find solace in the success of the students.

The Chairman cautioned them against unwholesome attitudes, such as lateness, sending pupils on an errand, poor lesson notes and nonchalant behaviour among others, warning that such laxity would no longer be condoned by the present administration, considering huge investment in the education sector.

He applauded some schools that had commenced academic work by conducting Welcome Test for their pupils on the first day of resumption, calling on parents and guardians to encourage and cooperate with teachers by providing necessary instructional materials for their wards.

The Local Government boss, who said that the determination of the present administration to make learning conducive, led to the construction and renovation of several blocks of classrooms in schools across the state, noted that deployment of teachers to schools, especially in the rural areas, through Ogun Teach scheme, had improved the competence of the teaching staff, enjoining stakeholders to join hands with government to achieve the set goals in the sector.

In their separate remarks, the Principal of Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro, Mr. Oluwagbenga Oladipe and her counterpart in a private school, Mrs. Adijat Olaonigan, pledged teachers’ commitment to work, appealing for more encouragement to enable them deliver.

YSLG TO ENJOY IMPROVED WELFARE PACKAGE - CHAIRMAN

The Chairman, Yewa South Local Government (YSLG), Hon. Lateef Salami, has embarked on some key projects across the area to improve the socio-economic well-being of the people.

Hon. Salami disclosed some of the visions of his administration during the foundation laying ceremony of a 20-unit lock-up shops, at Sayedero Market in Ilaro, saying improving the lives of the people was paramount to him.

"This is first of many, as we are ready to also construct 28 open stalls in the same market. We are also going to construct a block of six units of VIP toilet at the Council's Secretariat, rehabilitate a block of three classrooms at Ilobi Irinja Primary School, rehabilitate Alaanu Health Centre in Owode, sink borehole at Oke-Odan, clear the refuse pilling up at the dumpsite along Owode Road and maintain the local government's plantation.

       "A bunch of other projects will also follow as soon as we are buoyant. All to prove to our people that we are not a government that gets into power and forgets the source of its authority", he said.

The Chairman added that comfort of the people of the area was what was on the front burner of his administration, assuring that no stone would be left unturned in pursuit of making life better for the people than when he came on board.

He appreciated the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the financial backing of the projects, saying, "None of these would have been possible if the Governor had said no. The fact that he said yes was the reason our people at the grassroots would have a better life."

Speaking at the event, the Iya-loja of Ilaro, Alhaja Risikat Idowu, who commended the Chairman for considering market women in his developmental agenda, said the project would ease the stress and other security issues encountered while managing their goods, tasking other political office holders in the area to emulate the gesture by contributing to the infrastructural development of the market.
